Weekend Recap

Admit you spent the last weekend in June wondering if I was still on my running hot streak.

Well friends, my hot streak ended after Saturday’s run.

Let me explain.

I ran a quick and easy 3.50 miles Friday morning to keep myself loose for Saturday’s early morning long run.

I had a crazy busy weekend on tap that began Friday night and didn’t slow down until late on Sunday.

When weekends such as these occur, one needs to adjust their runs/workouts accordingly.

It was my choice to enjoy myself Friday night. And enjoy I did.

I went to sleep much later than normal making it impossible to set out early to run.

Could I have skipped my Saturday long run? Put it off until Sunday? Run less miles than planned?

Sure. I could have. But I didn’t.

The beauty of running or any exercise routine in general is that the only person that can hold you accountable is yourself.

And I respect me. And my routine. And was not about to let me down.

I set out for my run a few hours later than normal and chose to run my minimum long run distance of 10 miles.

They were not easy miles. At all.

The sun was beating down on me, it was hot and humid, my legs were tired. All of me was tired.

But I did it. And felt great afterward. Well, great psychologically. Not so sure about physically.

So what does a girl do when she is sore, tired and literally running on fumes?

That’s right. She heads to Manhattan for the rest of the day and night.

I didn’t get downtown to the Peanut Butter Sandwich Shop but I did spend the afternoon galavanting through the city hitting all of my favorite stores with friends.

The lower half of my body was not exactly thrilled with me but my legs and feet hung in there like troopers.

Remember last week when I said that my friend was trying to get me to go to a psychic?

We randomly ended up going for our readings before dinner.

If you have never been to a psychic or don’t believe in it, you might as well laugh at me or just skip this portion of today’s post.

The things that Ann (our new psychic pal) said in our readings could not be made up; freaking us both out in a good and giddy way.

The information I received was more than accurate, on point for my past and present.

Making me believe what she said was in store for my near future.

The rock you see in the picture above is no rock. It is the crystal she gave us.

At that point we were both amused and are still laughing about our crystals now but all in all, great experience.

As was having dinner at the St. Regis Hotel.

The fancier you dine, the less food on the plate.

But how pretty was the china? The raisin rolls were out of this world.

The picture of my dinner of course did not come out well but I always redeem myself come dessert.

That would be a plate of chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies.

All cookies deserve to be eaten on pretty china.

By Sunday morning, my legs had absolutely no interest in running. It was bound to happen.

I went to Lifetime instead for a quick crosstraining workout as well as to inform them that I would be freezing my membership come August.

I am feeling better today but stiffer than last week. Not so sure running is in the cards for me this morning.

I do see a Red Mango parfait in my future though.

How was your weekend?

Do you push yourself to keep to your routine?

Are you amused by my psychic reading?

Don’t you hate when fancy restaurants skimp on the food?

Hi! I'm Meredith. Join me while I run and cook my way through single motherhood. It is always an adventure trying to teach my 12 year old son the benefits of an active lifestyle combined with healthy eating while of course, still leaving room for dessert.

  1. I went to a fancy restaurant this weekend too and one of the things that kind of annoys me is when you order an appetizer and it comes with three pieces of something. It makes sharing a little difficult, but luckily the people I dine with agree to split everything down the middle so we each get one and a half of something. The flowers on your entree are a nice touch though 😉
