Yesterday’s “runtention” – 10 miles. Done.
I am really enjoying this new game plan of mine where I have thrown a long run into my midweek routine when I can squeeze it in.
And squeezing in 10 miles while trying to find a place to run only makes my accomplishment that much sweeter.
I really don’t want to talk about the fact that my path is completely under construction and off-limits.
I have inquired about a time frame but I think the people in the know are afraid to tell me so they simply say they aren’t sure.
It really may seem like a big deal but in reality, if you stop to think about it, it isn’t.
I never let the small stuff in life bother me. Is it annoying? Without a doubt. Can I still run though? Yes.
That’s the beauty about running. All you need is a pair of sneakers. You really don’t need anything else.
Just step outside and go.
You can create your path of choice. You can run from your front door, run your way to a desired location or drive to a special spot.
There aren’t many other forms of exercise you can say this about.
I mean, sure, you can break into a Zumba routine outside your front door if you wish. I have seen weirder things than that.
And who knows, I may even join you depending upon my mood.
But really, in all seriousness, running can happen anywhere you want it to. No special path needed. No gym required. No fancy membership fees.
So, tell me, what is stopping you from lacing up and getting out there?
Come on. I am a smart cookie. I know I have a ton of runner readers but I also know I have a ton of nonrunning readers. And some who aren’t exercising at all on a regular basis.
I understand you don’t think you have the right lung capacity. I hear you when you say you don’t have time, feel as though you may throw up, faint, lose a limb, can’t breathe and may die.
I sympathize when you say it is too hot, too humid, too cold, snowing, raining, icing, hailing or windy.
I am not telling you to become the U.S. Postal Service but I am saying to recognize your excuses and realize that if you are always waiting for the perfect conditions, you will rarely accomplish anything.
By no means am I telling you to go outside and suddenly run 10 miles. Or even 5 miles. Or even 1 mile without stopping to walk.
My point here today people is that you too are capable of getting out there and trying.
Start by walking. Then maybe a jog. Slowly build it up- who knows where this new routine will lead you.
You can do it.
On another topic, please help me understand why I like to eat my oatmeal yogurt concoctions out of an almost empty peanut butter jar.
Is it because I like the challenge of trying to get every last drop out of peanut butter from the jar? Probably.
I have decided that they construct these jars just to annoy people like me. There is a curve to the bottom of the jar that doesn’t allow any of my utensils to reach it. Yes, I have tried multiple spoons and forks.
Why can’t I just take a spoonful of peanut butter from one of the other 23 jars in my pantry if I still want more you wonder?
Geez, that would be too easy. And ruin my fun.
Sorta like when I would spend my time picking marshmallows out of the cereal boxes, raisins out of trail mixes and cookie dough out of the ice cream.
Oh, don’t pretend you haven’t done this too.

I NEED TO KNOW:
Where do you run? Outside or treadmill?
Have you ever taken Zumba? I have, I enjoy the dance jam classes on occasion!
Are you guilty of picking the cookie dough out of the ice cream container?
