Happy Monday! I think I’m mostly cheerful on this Monday since the weather has finally turned itself to spring. It’s been warm and sunny which makes me so very happy.
So far this spring season, I have not felt the adjustment period to warm weather running. Usually, it takes me a little time to get used to the warmer weather, but so far, so good. Maybe today’s run will be a different story as the humidity is expected to be higher. We will see. I honestly think it’s my age. The older I get, the more I appreciate and welcome warm weather, feeling better in the heat than in the cold. This is why New Yorkers end up moving to Florida. I’m slowing understanding the true mentality.
Speaking of heat, I did notice that I am in need of a few new warm weather workout clothes. During the winter, I cleared out my workout apparel, removing a lot of my lululemon Swiftly tops because I wore them to death. The Gap was running 40% off (when aren’t they running a sale, honestly?) so I bought some tank tops and a sports bra to get me started for summer.
GapFit Breathe Side-Tie Mesh Panel Tank
GapFit Breathe Tie-Back Tank Top
GapFit Eclipse Medium Support Strappy Sports Bra
I may still replace my short sleeve Swifty tops from lululemon because I do think they are the best and I like to run in short sleeve tops sometimes but I will probably grab them from the We Made Too Much section rather than pay full price. And I will search the sales for my favorite lulu tank too!

Monday – 5 Miles (treadmill)
Woah, I felt today’s workout in my lungs by the time this one was finished! I wasn’t quite sure what my plan was, all I knew is that I wanted to run 5 miles.
I broke the run down mentally into sections of 10 minutes, until completing 5 miles.
Here is what it looked like:
1 – 10: 5 min easy/5 min 30-sec hard/30-sec easy < – such a great way to warm up
10 – 20: 5 min easy/5 min 1 min hard/1 min easy
20 – 30: 1 min hard/1 min easy
30 – finish: 2 min hard/1 min easy < – this is where my lungs started to burn
Total time: right over 43 minutes
Tuesday – 45 Min Pure Barre
Wednesday – 5 Miles
Easy run – average pace of 9:33
Thursday – 50 Min Walk
I noticed yesterday that my obliques were crazy sore. Pure Barre workouts challenge the abs and core but I hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary. Laura and I decided that my soreness was probably a combination of Pure Barre, increasing my mileage a bit in the last week or so, a speed workout on Monday, AND being sick briefly at the end of the last week.
My recovery was probably slowed by whatever fast virus I had. I did notice this week that I felt like I was sort of fighting off a cold that was never fully breaking out so I took today easy to feel better, even though I had woken up without the same soreness I felt yesterday.
Friday – 3.25 Miles/15 Min Pure Barre
I wanted to run 3 miles or so, just to get out there while saving myself for a longer run tomorrow. While running, I noticed I felt so great and almost decided to run faster/longer but thankfully my friend called me so I slowed to chat. She saved me from running more than planned for today.
Saturday – 10 Miles
10 miles, two Saturdays in a row! It was gorgeous outside so this run was super enjoyable and really did fly by quickly.
My plan was to go easy for the first 5 miles and then increase my effort for the last 5 miles. It worked nicely although, in the last mile, I kept forgetting that I wanted to keep my effort up.
It wasn’t really a bad thing – I was zoning out instead of feeling tired and wanting to be finished. I was simply lost in thought, which as you approach 10 miles, really is a good sign in that I wasn’t feeling the distance or fatigue.
Sunday – 45 Min Pure Barre
