Thankgiving Dinner + Shopping Black Friday Sales

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving with lots of good food!

For the first time since 2019 (before the pandemic), we were able to have Thanksgiving in the city at my aunt and uncle’s apartment with my cousins. Last year I was sick with a cold and the year prior was still very much the pademic time period so this year felt really nice to seem back to normal!

I missed a picture of the sweet potatoes but everything was delicious as always.

I had two plates full of food – the stuffing and sweet potatoes are my Thanksgiving favorites.

Black Friday Sales

I get very overwhelmed by the Black Friday deals each year. Now that you know I’m a Gemini who can be indecisive over the little things that matter but don’t really matter, are you really all that shocked?

It’s even worse this year because the sales started earlier than ever. Why do they do this to me? Shouldn’t Black Friday actually mean something? What does the tradition of Black Friday mean when they start Black Friday sales weeks ahead of time?

And, if I’m being honest, the Black Friday deals I browse are all about me. Forget the gifts, this is the best time of year to buy what I want on sale.

Alo Yoga is 30% off sitewide. You know I love everything! Grab the headbands for sure. And the Foxy Sherpa tote! I keep looking at the Knock Out Faux Fur Jacket too. It’s such a good deal on the sale.

Bloomingdales has 25% off items labeled for the sale. It’s worth browsing the site and in-store! There’s so much to look at but I love these Love Pop Top Mittens.

Shopbop is 25% off with code HOLIDAY –check out the Stoney Clover accessories they have, it’s so rare to get them on sale! They make excellent gifts.

J.Crew has been running the 50% off just about everything (not cashmere) for a good week already. The actual Black Friday sale now includes an addition 10% discount. So many good finds! I love this top with the bow in the back. The gloves and matching hat with pom pom are well-priced on the sale too. Oh, and the coats. You can’t beat the sales on the coats from J.Crew!

Gap is 50% off plus an additional 10%- I just did a whole post on the tops I got from GapFit for the gym. Now is the time to shop!

I ALWAYS stock up during the Glossier Black Friday 20% off sale. And if you spend $100, it’s 30% off. I’m buying my favorite balm dot calm lip balm and mascara in bulk today.

The Nightstand Duo is an excellent gift – the duo contains balm dot com and hand cream. The hand cream bottle is everything. Oh, and definitely grab the Skin Tint and Stretch Concealer Duo on sale – such a great combo. No matter which other foundations and concealers I buy, the Glossier duo remains my go-to classic.

From Biossance’s sitewide 30% off sale, I restocked my Squalene + Hyaluronic Toning Mist supply. I bought the full size and the travel size. It’s a great makeup setting mist and hydration mist all in one.

Charlotte Tilbury has really good sales too with up to 30% off everything! Pillow Talk is my favorite. The Superstar Glow Kit Beauty Light Wands are such a great gift for anyone, or for yourself.

Black Friday Shopping Deals

I hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving.

I’ve actually been sick with a bad cold this week (not COVID) so yesterday was not the typical holiday for me. I did keep some of the desserts for myself at home though and those chocolate fudge-filled cookie cups are as delicious as they appear. 🙂

desserts

In typical Black Friday shopping fashion, here are some of the sites, stores, and deals I”ll be shopping today:

J.Crew is 40% off your purchase with code SHOPEARLY.

ShopBop is running big sales including discounted pricing on certain Stoney Clover pouches and bags.

I’ve already shopped Biossance’s 30% off sitewide sale to restock the best hand cream there is along with the toning mist I use to set my makeup.

If you missed the Sephora sale, you can shop Tatcha‘s Black Friday deals for many of the items I included in my skincare picks including Indigo Overnight Repair, the best makeup primer, and my favorite nightly lip mask.

Glossier’s Black Friday 20% sale is back this year!

You can be sure I’ve placed my order to stock up on Balm Dotcom lip balm/skin salve and Lash Slick mascara. Get the Glossier hoodie for yourself (or as a gift too) – I love it.

Here’s what I bought during last year’s Glossier’s Black Friday sale.

Bloomingdale’s is 25% Off MANY items throughout the site and store. There’s lots of Aqua included in the sale (including cashmere and my most favorite cashmere dress).

I want the Apparis faux fur fingerless gloves in pink, by the way.

Also, my friend bought me this Barefoot Dreams CozyChic throw — it’s a great gift.

Alo Yoga is 20% off sitewide! I shared many of my favorites in this post including this Alosoft Hooded Runner Long Sleeve – it’s a must at this price and definitely rivals (if not emulates) the lululemon long sleeve Run Swiftly.

Black Friday Shopping and Sales!

Okay, so this Thanksgiving was obviously unlike any other which just goes in line with what the year has been. We didn’t go to the city and I haven’t seen my cousins in almost a year. It’s fine though, we have our health and had really delicious food yesterday too.

I made cornbread stuffing, roasted vegetables, and a lightened up apple crisp to bring to my parents’ house for the holiday. We also had mashed cauliflower, more stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes…and oh, I think there was turkey too.

thanksgiving sides

In Black Friday news, sales are always a good thing. If I’m being honest, my favorite part of holiday shopping online is seeing the added section of Gifts For Me. Yes, I’m that person who pretends to shop for others while secretly shopping for myself. I mean, even last year, I went to the mall with every intention of finding my mother a Hanukkah gift and bought myself a pair of boots instead under the guise of assuming my mother would want her daughter to be happy. Isn’t a child’s happiness every mother’s perfect present?

In all seriousness, I’m all over the place with Black Friday sales. It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? I’ve made a scattered list of what I’ve found of interest along with the sales at the stores I’m shopping.

Big sales at J.Crew. Um, the price of this Wide-Knot Headband with Crystals is incredible. I have one, you need it. It’s a great gift too. Very comfortable and so pretty!

These fuzzy slide slippers from J.Crew come in pretty colors (the pink!) and are super soft (I touched them in the store). Also really soft is this cloud fleece hoodie. I like it for around the house but you can totally wear it out too.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”4285644″]

Who wouldn’t want these Fluff Yeah Shearling Slingback Slippers? They aren’t on sale but not everything can be bought on sale.

Also not on sale but a great gift, these Golden Goose Poolstar Genuine Shearling Slide Sandals.LOVE.

I’m all about pajamas and loungewear this year. There’s this Star Seeker Printed Pajama Set and every pattern is nice in the Pajama Sets From Aqua.I want them all. Such a great gift.

ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with these Converse Faux Shearling Platform Sneakers. Great price, on sale or not.

I keep coming back to this Adidas Hooded Sherpa Fleece Jacket.

Pretty sure I need these Apparis Faux Fur Gloves.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”4285645″]

Lululemon thinks they are fooling us by adding a Black Friday section that’s simply the We Made Too Much section with a name change for now. Not on sale but a great gift are these Lululemon Align High Rise with Twist Waist.

Splendid is offering 50% off Sleepwear with 40% off everything else with code GIFTED. I love everything Splendid but have my eye on this belted sweater jacket.

Shopbop is 20% Off Orders of $200+ with code SHOP20. This is an EXCELLENT time to grab Shopbop’s collection of Stoney Clover pouches and bags on sale.

Stoney Clover is truly the greatest accessories gift you can give. If you ask me, there is no better gift for the female on your list, of any age. I’ll be over here counting the days until Hanukkah when I can open my own Stoney Clover box which includes a new duffle and small pouch. 🙂

Don’t forget about Stoney Clover masks-everyone can use a pack.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”4285646″]

Glossier is 25% OFF – You know I love Glossier! Skincare and makeup make excellent gifts but these sales are also an opportunity to stock up on your own essentials, which is exactly what I am doing.

Need my help with Glossier picks? Check this post and the links below.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”4285665″]

Charlotte Tilbury has major Black Friday Beauty Deals going on. HELLO, the Pillow Talk Instant Eye Palettes are Buy One, Get One. Like, get one for yourself and then one as a gift, or just plan ahead to split with a friend. That’s what I think Heather and I are doing.

But how about this? Nordstrom is offering a full-size Darling Easy Eye Palette with a $100 Charlotte Tilbury purchase.

Biossance is 30% Off Sitewide. So many great clean skincare sets to give as gifts or to try the products for yourself. Already placed my order.

Happy Shopping. If you need any help or have questions, please ask. I’m happy to assist. Have a nice weekend.

Thanksgiving + Black Friday Sales 2019!

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

thanksgiving table

It has become customary for me to share a few pictures of the pretty Thanksgiving tables my aunt sets for the holiday.

thanksgiving table

And of course, the Thanksgiving food. There was just so much that it became hard to get a good picture of everything!

thanksgiving

I was trying to take pictures at the same time as the food was arranged so not pictured on the buffet tables yet were the sweet potatoes and maybe the stuffing. Oops. But rest assured, both made it to my plate.

thanksgiving food

See, take a close look – A big serving of stuffing the plus the sweet potatoes with marshmallows, among the rest of the side dishes. I live for the Thanksgiving sides!

And a quick shot of dessert.

Okay, so who is already shopping the Black Friday sales? Here are a few of the sites where you can find me today (before I go to the mall).

Um, my Stoney Clover is currently 25% off. I don’t even know how I’m sitting here typing this post rather than designing another new pouch right now.

J.Crew has huge sales, 40% and 50% off regular pricing. Be sure to grab a cashmere crewneck sweater (in a few colors since it’s on sale!) and oh, I love the cashmere cardigan with the jeweled buttons. Already in my cart is the Lele Sadoughi & J. Crew Ivory Velvet Headband. Check out my recent J.Crew picks for more shopping inspiration like for coats, gloves, and shoes.

Bloomingdale’s is running their Buy More, Save More. I’m browsing all the clothes and shoes, especially the cashmere sweaters. Great deals right now.

From Victoria’s Secret, I already bought these pajamas but now you can grab them on Black Friday Sale.

Lululemon is offering Black Friday too! Good time to grab the Scuba Hoodie in that pretty blush color. 🙂

Makeup:

MAC is 25% off — make sure you check out all the holiday sets! I’ve bought a few (for myself because I’m selfish).

Charlotte Tilbury is 30% off sitewide — um, don’t miss this! I’m obsessed with this blush and now is the time to grab the Starry Eyes to Hypnotise palette since it’s on sale.

If you are shopping Sephora, refer back to my receive Sephora picks for ideas.

Thanksgiving Highlights + Black Friday Sales + Items On My List

Oh, hi! How was your Thanksgiving if you celebrated yesterday? I hope it was really nice and that the food was delicious.

As usual, I piled my Thanksgiving plate with all of the side dishes. This is the one holiday where being a meatless eater is hardly noticeable because the sides are so amazing. Although my aunt does make the best little meatballs and I sort of miss those but it’s okay because I really like the sweet potatoes (with marshmallows!), the stuffing, mashed parsnips, salads, vegetables and who knows what else.

Thanksgiving plate

I missed the initial picture of the food on display before everyone in my family attacked it but here it is when I went up for my second round.

Thanksgiving

Oh! And check out a close up of the rainbow cauliflower! I spotted this beautiful bowl of cauliflower in the kitchen before it was put out. It was SO GOOD. My aunt is the best cook, everyone knows it.

There were lots of cakes and pies but the fruit platter was gorgeous. Can fruit be gorgeous? I think so.

And I can’t forget at least one shot of the table because my aunt sets the best tables.

Flowers on point.

My mom and I were dying because I had asked for them for Hanukkah weeks ago with the matching Rebecca Minkoff Asymmetric Fringed Muffler Scarf!

See, this is why you can trust my suggestions – clearly I’m a trendsetter <- insert my typical sarcastic tone here. But really, trust me. 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving! Plus On This Day

thinking out loud

It’s not Thanksgiving if we don’t look back at the ever-classic picture of my son when he was six weeks old.

Also known as that time my now ex-husband placed my baby in the pan that was about to hold the Thanksgiving mashed potatoes. I remember that the kid was crying regardless (because all he ever did was cry) and all we did all day and night long was look for the place to put him to make him stop.

benji's first thanksgiving

The mashed potato pan didn’t help but it was pretty funny for that brief moment in time. I’m so glad I took a picture of this ridiculous moment! It’s now famous in our house and we look/laugh at it every Thanksgiving morning. Back in 2003, we didn’t have smart phones or camera phones so getting a picture of something in a brief second really was rare!

Past Thanksgiving’s On The Blog

So we almost always go to my aunt in the city for Thanksgiving. We will be heading there later today and I’m really excited to see my cousins and everyone!

Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving 2014  plus my Thanksgiving eating pep talk

Thanksgiving 2013 –  I spoke a lot this year about eating what you want, enjoying the holiday, and moving on from it.

On This Day:

11/23/16: Cake Tasting & Cake Studio Tour (WIAW) – Ahhh! That time I had a meeting with my pal Ron Ben-Israel (you know him right? The famous cake guy and also on Food Network?) at his cake studio. I got the grand tour AND a cake tasting.  And this is just another reason why I love my job. 🙂

cake tasting at rbi cakes

11/23/15: Blueberry Pie Protein Oatmeal – I eat this recipe basically every single morning still.

11/23/14: Workout Recap 11/17 – 11/23

Wishing you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving! I’m hoping to pop in tomorrow morning with a whole bunch of Black Friday and Cyber Sales!

Thanksgiving Week in Review

It’s so not easy getting back into the swing of things after the long holiday weekend but hey, we have no choice.

Week-In-Review-Button-Final

Last week feels like a total blur so just in case you were unplugged/out of your usual blog reading routine, here are some posts you may have missed:

I went to the mall a couple of times over the holiday weekend and it shocked me that it wasn’t crazy crowded. I was able to get parking right away although I think online shopping has something to do with it.

mall

Also not crowded was Trader Joe’s however they must have been crowded enough at some point to sell out of the cinnamon raisin English muffins!

Trader Joe's english muffins

As much as I love sushi, I think that these crispy rice with tuna things are my most favorite. I get really excited when Japanese restaurants offer them as appetizers.

We went to Aiko which used to be Kenta which used to be Nisen. You know, one of those restaurant spots where the name keeps changing but they serve the same type of food.

crispy rice and tuna

Important things checked off my list this weekend:

*Haircut (finally, I cut two inches!).

*Manicure & Pedicure.

*Upgraded my phone to the iPhone 7.

*Watched some of the new Gilmore Girls episodes on Netflix.

*Successfully picked all of the apples out of the apple pie leftover from Thanksgiving.

So why didn’t anyone alert me in advance that Saturday was National Cake Day?!

I am long overdue for a slice of my favorite Linda’s Fudge Cake. According to the blog photo library which I then compared to my phone photo library, the last Linda’s Fudge Cake to reach my lips happened at the end of the July.

At least I had a good bagel yesterday.

It’s so hard to choose which bagel to get (as I said on Instagram yesterday) but I went with the multigrain maple raisin bagel which goes so well with a big chopped salad.

Who is shopping Cyber Monday?! My inbox is loaded with deals (including Pure Barre which has 25% off of the DVD’s and online workouts!) so I am going to go take a look at all of the sales before heading out for my run.

Have a great week!

Weekly Workout Recap (Thanksgiving Week)

I kept waiting to have a bleh run this week but it never happened! I don’t know why, I just figured at some point my legs would get heavy or my mood would want nothing to do with the routine nature of the miles but each day was a good one.

By today though, a girl needs a break from running in order to feel recharged and ready for the week ahead. I really look forward to NOT putting on my usual running clothes or listening to my usual string of Pandora and playlist music by today!

a look at my week in workouts including running and pure barre

Monday – 5 Miles

I woke up tired, the kind of tired where your eyes don’t want to fully open for several hours even though you have already been up for a while. I even headed outside for my run, in the blustery cold and wind with snow flurries, still with my eyes half closed!

It wasn’t a bad run though at all even though I was nervous that I was too tired and disinterested to run my usual loop. Funny how that happens right? Sometimes we don’t even know how a run will go until we start moving.

I skipped Pure Barre and simply stretched before and after my run. My calves had been tight since Saturday’s long run although I didn’t notice the tightness at all while running, only when walking around.

Tuesday – In The Gym (7 Miles)

It was super cold and windy this morning so I opted for an in the gym treadmill and strength workout similar to last week. I may keep a workout like this going weekly through the winter because I really like the variety it adds to my routine!

3.5 miles on treadmill < – 2 mile warm up, 1.5 miles speed

free weights (upper body) & squats

3.5 miles on treadmill < – 3 miles finished right under 24:30 with half mile cool down.

weights in gym

Wednesday – Pure Barre/5 Miles

Pure Barre Tone in 10 Combo:

  • Arms & Abs
  • Thighs & Seat

Thankfully the wind calmed down for my run this morning because the wind is my least favorite running condition.

5 easy miles that felt really comfortable which I think has something to do with the temperature being in the 30’s. I usually feel my best running in the cold air (without wind!).

Thursday  – 10 Miles

Since I wasn’t in a rush this morning, I extended my typical Thursday run of 7 or 8 miles to 10 miles.

Two mile warm up and then fartleks for the next 7 miles before a cool down.

It’s funny how I used to share my splits straight from the MapMyRun splits screen but ever since switching to Runkeeper, I never take the screenshots because their display is much bigger and more spread out which makes things hard. And, since I never take routine screenshots anymore, quite often I forget to look at my splits after my runs, especially easy runs. Not really a bad thing when you think about it, we shouldn’t always go by the numbers. I tend to go more with effort and how I feel these days.

However, I did happen to look at the splits from this run and took a screenshot which fit a few of the miles in the screen.

Runkeeper splits

Friday – Pure Barre/5 Miles

I went with whatever Pure Barre DVD was in the player which turned out to be Pure Barre Studio Series (45 minutes) before heading outside for 5 easy miles.

Saucony Rides

My stomach was a little heavy from Thanksgiving the night before but nothing too terrible.

Saturday – 12 Miles

Just a routine long run, nothing too eventful which is just how I like it! I thought that maybe my legs would feel heavy from running a little longer on Thursday followed by not exactly eating or drinking appropriately Friday night for a Saturday long run but I felt completely normal.

Sunday – Pure Barre

If you missed my latest review of the Pure Barre Pure Results with focus on thighs online workout, check it out here!

Best thing you ate so far this weekend?

Is it really cold by you or still sort of mild?

Is today a run day or a rest day?

Thanksgiving Highlights 2016

I meant to pop in yesterday morning but here’s what happened:

First, I didn’t open my laptop on Wednesday beyond 2:30 pm. My son and I went out in the afternoon after I picked him up from school and once we got home after dinner, I considered myself unplugged from everything other than my television as I was glued to watching MTV’s marathon of The Hills for the rest of the night.

Yesterday I made the mistake of checking my email when I first woke up which meant I spent my time searching the Henri Bendel and Kate Spade websites for Black Friday sales instead of writing a post before heading out for my Thanksgiving morning run.

So hi. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

I love being lazy on Thanksgiving but I guess I am not as lazy as I think. I ran 10 miles instead of my usual Thursday morning run of 7 or 8 since I had the extra time.

While watching the parade in my pajamas with my son, I made my famous oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies (the dairy free version –recipe here ) and since I had the oven on, I also made up a dairy free pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe too. If you like pumpkin, I would say these cookies came out delicious but I didn’t pay attention to my recipe therefore I cannot share it. I apologize!

cookies

Oops. We just looked at Thanksgiving dessert first! Let’s back up to the main meal!

My son and I headed over to my parents’ house in the afternoon so that we could drive in with them to the city to go over to my aunt and uncle for the holiday.

My aunt sets the best table. Always.

Thanksgiving table

I say this every year but my aunt’s taste and choice of flowers is the reason why she was in charge of working with my florist for the centerpieces at my wedding way back in the day.

table centerpieces

The food is always amazing too. As a vegetarian, the Thanksgiving side dishes have always made me happy but this year they were extra delicious.

Thanksigiving side dishes

There was broccoli slaw, a kale salad and highly addicting roasted cauliflower. I could have eaten the whole bowl!

I also had asparagus, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, mashed parsnips, roasted potatoes and quinoa.

Thanksgiving

I piled a few plates that looked like this.

Thanksgiving plate

Back to dessert again. I didn’t get a full picture of the dessert table because I was too busy eating chocolate cake and my cookies. Gosh my oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies came out so good! I hadn’t made them in a while so it was nice to know I still had my talent in me.

dessert

I was definitely full but not sickly full which means Thanksgiving was a success.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!
