Good morning.
Just sitting here with my coffee and Sunday paper. I get very excited to clip my way through the coupon section.
I am also excited to be drinking my most favorite Golden French Toast coffee. Have you ever had it? The best. The smell alone makes this coffee a winner above all other flavors.
Speaking of French toast, do you make french toast yourself or do you buy it in a box from the frozen section at the grocery store?
While the frozen French toast is good and simple enough to pop into the toaster quickly for yourself or your kids, it is equally as easy to whip up a fresh homemade plate, as long as you know how.
French toast is one of my “recipes” that I never really realized was a “recipe” – does that make sense? A lot of what I make seems second nature to me, just sort of thrown together.
But it is technically a recipe. An easy one. That I will share with you today.
Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin bread is amazing with anything but especially when dipped in egg and cooked on a griddle pan. Of course you can use any bread you wish, I just recommend this cinnamon raisin bread since it is my favorite.
Basically, all you need is the bread, some egg and a drop of milk. Easy enough, right?
SIMPLE FRENCH TOAST (SERVES ONE):
- 2 slice of Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel bread – preferable Food For Life’s Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread but you can use any bread you wish.
- 1 egg plus 1 white – you can sub out the egg and replace with 2 whites if you want
- 1 tsp of skim milk – or almond milk
*If you go against my wishes and choose to use a different bread, you may want to add a pinch of cinnamon to the egg mixture.
DIRECTIONS:
Mix egg with milk in a bowl. Place a slice of the bread into egg mixture, flipping to coat. Repeat with second slice of bread. Lightly grease griddle pan (I use coconut oil spray) and set to a medium heat.
Flip slices after about one minute; total time to cook is two minutes or a bit more (depending upon your stove top).
Voila. French toast. Serve with syrup, berries, bananas….and of course, Mighty Maple peanut butter.
If you want to get more adventurous, I have been known to mash banana into the egg mixture as well as peanut butter. You can also spread the peanut butter on top of the french toast slices before removing them from the griddle and close it up like a sandwich to let it get all warm and gooey inside.
The best part about making this French toast yourself is the freshness factor, free from preservatives and added ingredients.
Now, please excuse me while I go back to my coupons. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
