My Theme Song, Loyalty & On This Day

thinking out loud

I’ve got an oldie but GOODIE added to my running playlist this week!

It’s fascinating to me that I didn’t already have this classic song on my playlist already. I mean, Blu Cantrell’s Hit ‘Em Up Style was basically my theme song for a while there during my divorce. I really should have had my lawyer play this song every time I entered the Supreme Court for my divorce appearances to lighten things up a bit.

These days I giggle my way through this song but there was a time when the words were reality and reality was not very funny.

It’s nice to know I can laugh now and oh boy do I laugh every time I hear it while running. Do you realize how hysterical this song is?

Hit "Em Up Style

On the topic of running playlists, I still use Pandora a whole lot while I run. Lately, and this week especially, the app has not been working very well. Anyone else having this issue?

So you may have seen on Instagram that I am still busy doing bad things to the Dunkin Donuts Rangers coffee cups. Of course I see myself as a little bit pathetic here but I honestly can’t help it.

My passion and loyalty for my Islanders runs super deep. Even when they miss the playoffs, even when they continue to let me down year after year, they are my team which means the Rangers are the enemy at all times. Just seeing a Rangers symbol makes my blood boil.

I now keep a black Sharpee marker in my car so that I can quickly poke fun all over the Dunking Donuts coffee cups as soon as I receive it. And then, I share a picture of it on Instagram to make myself feel better and make any Rangers fan who may encounter my post, feel annoyed.

What can I say, hockey rivalries bring out the best in me. I am a loyal fan and this is what loyal fans do, okay?

On This Day:

4/27/16: Long Island Half Marathon Over The Years –  The signs for road closures and commercials on TV have already started for the half next week! I feel a little weird not running it this year but it’s nice to look back at the races from the last few years to see where I was in life at the time.

4/27/15: Meatless Monday Stir Fry Bowls – Yum, I still make this recipe often.

4/27/13: Comfort Is Key – This post feels so old to me! I had just bought my first pair of Pro Compression socks and started wearing the Brooks Glycerin’s. Too bad I didn’t find my Adidas Energy Boosts sooner!

Do you have specific running playlists that you listen to all of the time or do you use an app? Anyone still use Pandora?

Are there any major sports rivalries in your area? Which teams?

I Am Officially Old & New Running Playlist

If I had my way, New York State would revise the law that currently allows for children to sit in the front seat of cars at the age of twelve to something more like:

When riding with their parents, kids must sit in the back seat forever. No matter your age, even if you are 37 years old and your parents are entering senior citizen status, you are to sit in the back seat of their car if they are driving.

My biggest problem with having my son up front is the radio.

I thought I was cool. I thought I was hip. I thought I listened to the right songs at the right loud volume. I mean, I know every word to the Beastie Boys which I told you recently, doesn’t that count for something?

This kid requires complete control of the stations and finds songs that not only have I not heard of (which I just don’t understand! I thought I was so up to date?!) but makes them all way too loud.

After going through the whole – I need it lower please so I can see and I need it lower please so I can hear an approaching emergency vehicle, he caught me.

And called me a hypocrite.

New Kids on the Block came on the radio….Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh, The Right Stuff…and I blasted it.

What? 80’s music deserves to be blasted, not this current Hit The Quan nonsense he sings these days.

Oh. My. Goodness. I sound like an old person.

Anyway, what I am trying to say today aside from venting about my current motherhood struggles is that I have an awesome 80’s running playlist for you!

There’s no New Kids on the Block included but there are lots of randomly awesome 80’s songs which are perfect for running.

I listen to a bunch of Pandora radio stations when I run and one of my favorites is the 80’s Pop Radio. I love the music they throw at me in the morning because it includes the most popular 80’s songs mixed with some you randomly hear otherwise. The playlist I put together is a combination of both – some songs we still hear all of the time and some are a refreshing blast from the past!

The songs of my youth, I probably played them back in the day via record or cassette tape in my fisher price brown tape player.

It’s official. I am old. My son was right when he told me so the other day.

Tomorrow is a Big Day & New Running Playlist!

Tomorrow is a big day.

Not only is it the opening day for my son’s Little League season, it is the last regular season Islanders home game ever to played at the Nassau Coliseum.

Nassau Coliseum

After this season, the Coliseum is being knocked down and rebuilt for who knows exactly what but more importantly, my Islanders are moving to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and taking my childhood along with them.

Even though I have known about the impending move scheduled for the 2015-2016 season for a few years now, I sort of blocked it out since the concept of the years 2015-2016 seemed just so far away.

But it’s now 2015 and it’s about to happen.

I still don’t understand how Nassau County allowed this to happen! How 28 of the top 100 wealthiest zip codes in the entire country surround the Coliseum, that being considered middle class here, which was just listed in the news the other day, is an annual salary of $97,690   — yet no one had the money/wanted to spend the money to rebuild a new arena to keep the team playing here? I don’t get it.

Instead of focusing on the negative of a topic you probably don’t care very much about, I put together a really fun new running playlist for us with songs I have always loved listening to during Islanders games at the Nassau Coliseum.

I chose the songs that I thought we would most enjoy hearing while running (I already downloaded them!) and since these songs are played to motivate the players and the crowd, they can now motivate us too!

My son and I have already planned to go straight to Friendly’s for another Crowd Pleaser Sundae after the game tomorrow night.

Friendly's Crowd Pleaser Sundae

Remember we shared it back in October after opening night? 12 scoops of ice cream plus 6 toppings!

We had decided back then that we would return for another Crowd Pleaser at the end of the season figuring it would give me a happy moment to look forward to after tomorrow’s  bittersweet final game.

I mean, we do have the playoffs scheduled to begin next week, but still, we know that once the playoffs end, the Nassau Coliseum, which holds a major part of my life’s memories, will cease to exist.

Yes, I realize I can just make the trek to the games in Brooklyn but it’s not the same. Not even close.

Although, the Barclays Center does serve Junior’s Chocolate Cheesecake so I guess it’s not a totally terrible thing.

Do you have any of these songs currently on your running playlist?

If you were ordering 12 scoops of ice cream, would you get 12 different flavors or double some up?
