A couple of things before getting to my workouts…
1) My two-year anniversary with Pure Barre was just a few days ago! I realized it when I came across this post, Why I Signed Up For Pure Barre, which I actually wrote on July 24, 2014, exactly two years ago today.
I wrote that post only two classes into my Pure Barre experience. I cannot even believe it’s been two years of Pure Barre workouts already.
Here’s a picture of me from two years ago at the Pure Barre studio. From the looks of my face, it must have been an early morning class?
You all know by now that I fell in love with the Pure Barre concept and routine immediately. It was the perfect complement to running for me and exactly what I needed as a way to incorporate strength training into my week without really feeling like I was strength training. Does that make sense? If it doesn’t, I encourage you to try a barre class. It’s a serious non-impact workout which produces real results both mentally and physically.
I know I do a lot of talking about Pure Barre but if you ever have any questions about starting barre, please feel free to ask me!
2) I officially switched from MapMyRun to Run Keeper this week. It was hard on me at first to make this switch since I have been using MapMyRun for well over four years now but I am so happy that I did it. Run Keeper is calculating accurately, is easy to use and offers some fun charts at the end that seem easier to read (because I think they are accurate) as compared to MapMyRun’s charts.
My pace splits though aren’t as easy to share as MapMyRun’s so I will snapshot as best I can. They are a bit bigger in display.
All references to yoga in my recap once again refer to Yoga For Runners: Pre-Run. I go through the poses on my own since I have the practice memorized. Gosh it feels good!
Monday – Yoga/5.5 Miles & Pure Barre
This was my first morning using Run Keeper in place of MapMyRun. I have to play with the settings because every five minutes the voice chimed in my ear to tell me my pace and distance and I prefer just the one mile mark chime instead.
I combined 3 Pure Barre Tone in 10 workouts for a 30 minute Pure Barre workout after my run:
- Full Body
- Thighs & Seat
- Back & Cool down
Tuesday – Yoga/8 Miles (Fartleks)
2 mile warm up + 5 miles of fartleks + 1 mile cool down
I like fartlek runs because I just speed up and slow down at random points along my path. I worked myself real good during this run and Run Keeper was right on target.
Wednesday – 6 Easy Miles/Strength
I split up my run today like I did last week. I ran 3 easy miles and then headed into my gym for weights and squats and that sort of stuff. I finished up with another 3 miles outside.
Thursday – Yoga/8 Miles (4 tempo)
Hot but not too humid this morning.
2 mile warm up + 4 miles at half marathon effort + 2 miles easy
I definitely nailed the half marathon effort which felt terrific. It’s nice to finally feel adjusted to running in the warm weather, only took me what, two months? Don’t get me wrong, it still feels hot and I finish crazy sweaty but I am able to run more comfortably than I was for the first several weeks of the warm weather.
Friday – Yoga/3 Easy Miles/Pure Barre Studio Series DVD
The Studio Series is 45 Minutes in length. I have two DVD’s from this Pure Barre workout series but haven’t been doing them as much – I need to make sure that I do because they are a great workout.
Saturday – 13 Miles
We started a heat wave in New York today but I can’t say that I felt the temps any more than the rest of the week since I ran early and it wasn’t humid. I averaged right around 9:00 min/mile.
I came home to my favorite post-run oatmeal in a jar with lots of salt because I really need a lot of salt to recover properly (as in, without feeling dizzy and dehydrated) from summer runs.
Sunday – Rest Day
I won’t be running but may decide to do that new Pure Barre workout with the feature focus on thighs.
