The Important Stuff- Run, Food and Emojis

Good Monday morning! I know you have been patiently waiting to hear how many miles I ran on Saturday. I wish I could tell you exactly. But I can’t.

While my run was divine, at some point around the 7 mile mark I accidentally hit pause on my phone which froze MapMyRun for easily half a mile if not more. That incident combined with the fact that as my phone battery starts to die, the app starts to track mileage/pace wrong and we have a run not calculated accurately.

But, I do have a feeling I came in around 12 miles.

I came home to my favorite post- long run breakfast that is always eaten out of a jar. I must admit though, my taste buds are slowly changing.

While I have been on an oatmeal-free kick all week, I didn’t want to mess with the long run routine so I did what I normally do:

I always always have oatmeal – usually I eat a little bit of oatmeal before my run mixed with banana and some peanut butter.

Post-Run eats are the rest of the oatmeal mixed with plain greek yogurt, loaded with berries and more peanut butter in a jar.

Would you believe the first half of my run I was feeling eh from the peanut butter?

I think my world is off its axis.

I was so turned off by the peanut butter that when I came back, I added granola into my oatmeal jar instead of my usual additional spoonfuls of peanut butter.

Rather than question myself, I have decided to go where my taste buds lead me.

My taste buds these days are leading me to Andrea’s 25, which has become my new favorite restaurant.

Saturday night I felt the need to test out the Woodbury location.

Say hello to zucchini marinara topped with grilled shrimp. The dish comes with chicken but they will customize any dish for you so I went with the shrimp in place of the chicken and was in heaven.

I really need to make zucchini into “pasta” at home but I am too lazy to use a spiralizer. Which is just fine – I can save some deliciousness for dining out.

Burnt string beans on the side- can you blame me for loving this restaurant?

I think the Woodbury location will be my favorite – did I mention it is next to Crumbs and a self-serve yogurt store?

I actually walked into Crumbs and left without a cupcake choosing to go to Yogurt Crazy for a cup of toppings topped with yogurt. Sign number two that my world is slightly off axis.

Anyone else load their yogurt cup with more toppings than yogurt?

No picture of the yogurt cup because I was enjoying it too much and too quickly to get you a picture.

But I did get you a picture of this bag:

In my never-ending quest for a new handbag, I came across an Emoji inspired tote – how funny?

Emojis seem to be everywhere these days.

For my Australian readers, you may recognize these cute Emoji-looking faces from your local Pie Face location. For my local and US readers, in case you aren’t familiar, Pie Face is an Australian bakery café chain that opened in the New York City area within the last two years.

They make cute little pies – both savory and sweet.

The little boy and I spent the day yesterday in Manhattan. More on our spontaneous little adventure a bit later in the week.

School doesn’t start for another two weeks…let’s not even talk about.

I am off to get the day going with a run. Have a great Monday!

I NEED TO KNOW:

What was the best thing you ate this weekend?

Do you prefer the toppings over the frozen yogurt like I do? It’s all about the crunchies, hot fudge and whipped cream for me.

Ever been to Pie Face? If so, which is your favorite pie?

Do you text with Emojis?

Weekend Recap and Mixing Up The Menu

Well hello!  I almost didn’t wake up on time for me this morning – between the sun rising later and later and my new cable box which lacks a clock on the display, I woke up in the dark and without seeing the time, assumed it was 3:00 am and went back to sleep.

It was not 3:00 am.

Anyway, as we know, Saturday’s long run was rather icky. I spent the rest of the day hanging by the pool, resting my legs and eating good food.

I have a new favorite restaurant – Andrea’s 25.

I really try to unplug on the weekends, especially when out for dinner, but I couldn’t help but snap a quick picture of the out of this world Dijon Baked Shrimp with Burnt String Beans that I ordered.

Beyond delicious. As was the rest of the meal. I can’t wait to go back there again soon. Like real soon.

Big News: Yesterday was declared a full rest day for me.

My legs really needed the rest as did my mind. I have definitely been walking the fine line between logging a nice amount of miles and overtraining.

It was nice to sleep in, lounge around and make pancakes. I went with chocolate chip pancakes this time instead of waffles.

So big and fluffy – have you bought the Kodiak Cakes Mix yet? If not, please add it to your shopping list for this week.

After breakfast we headed down to Atlantic Beach for the day.

We now have a lovely seashell collection. As well as sand in various places throughout my car and house. No matter how I try not to, a bit of the beach always comes home with me.

Word of Advice: Have dinner planned ahead of time on the days you go to the beach. Coming home with a tired and cranky child as well as being tired and cranky yourself does not make for a rational conversation or quiet night.

He had his tired sights set on going out for dinner to The Cheesecake Factory and I had visions of whipping something up from the freezer, getting him showered and quickly into his bed.

We compromised eventually on a homemade pizza bagel after he informed me that nothing I have on hand, or anything I make in general lately, is appealing to him.

I guess it is time for me to mix up my freezer/pantry essentials and come up with some new meals to add to our routine menu.

He has been asking me to make shrimp so I’m thinking to grab a bag of the Wild Caught Shrimp from Trader Joe’s today, along with whatever else I can find that is the opposite of what I normally purchase.

My legs are feeling good (so far) this morning so a short, easy run is on my morning menu. I hate to tamper with my sneaker situation but I remembered I have a pretty new pair of Brooks Glycerins in my closet so I am leaning towards taking them out to play.

If you have a clock on your cable box or feel like setting an alarm, you can get up super super super early tomorrow and go outside to view the last night of the 2013 Perseid Meteor Showers.

Kinda cool, yes?

I NEED TO KNOW:

Does your cable box have a clock?

Do you have an easy shrimp recipe for me?

Are you tired of your usual go-to meals?

Have you caught any of the meteor showers this weekend or do you plan to?
