I was heavy on the cardio workouts this week although when I say heavy, it’s not like my mileage is anywhere near what it used to be. Like at first glance, someone reading running blogs who sees the phrase “heavy on the cardio” or “higher mileage week” is likely expecting double-digit runs and well more than 40 miles for the week.
Yeah, no. Not exactly.
Heavy on the cardio and higher mileage simply means I ran (and walked) more than I have lately and without the addition of my usual days of strength training. I’m really good (if you ask me) at balancing my strength workouts into my routine but my mood was focused elsewhere over the last seven days. I did manage one Pure Barre workout and an attempt at another strength training workout (see below for why I say attempt).
I would say 20-25 miles a week is a nice mileage week for me. 25 miles is even a little high and not often likely but 20 sounds about right. While I won’t hit 20 miles a week all the time, I do think I gravitate towards that as an average when I’m in the mood to run. I know I say this often but I just can’t fathom how I used to run more than this! Funny how things evolve.
Monday – 5 Miles
My hair got so long! I noticed my ponytail in my shadow when I finished my run.
Just a note about how I wear my hair to run: I wear this fringe fighter headband and then put my hair in a ponytail. If I am planning to wash my hair that day, I will leave the ponytail loose. If I don’t want to wash it that day, I put my hair in the ponytail and then wrap it in a tight bun with a scrunchie. This helps to preserve my blow out and the technique works! While my hair still gets sweaty underneath, the tight bun aspect will keep most of my hair fresh, and once I take it down and let the underparts air dry, my hair will actually look nice and feel soft. I recommend this approach if it’s the day after you wash and blow out your hair. Beyond that, it’s not as effective.
Tuesday – 3 Mile Walk
Wednesday – 4.25 Miles
Thursday – Not Sure What Went on Today!
So first I started with an Xtreme workout from Lifetime. 20 minutes in, I truly wasn’t feeling it so I stopped — I so very rarely stop a workout once I start it! However, I just knew today was not the right mood for this strength workout.
Instead, I decided to go for a walk. While walking, I switched to running. And then back to walking, Then ultimately back to running for a total of 3 miles. I ran most of the time but can’t really say a true breakdown.
What happened today?! I don’t fully know but will blame my time of the month.
Friday – 6 Miles
Saturday – 45 Min Pure Barre
Sunday – 7 Miles
Definitely a hot one this morning! I think the coming days will be hot and humid too. I don’t really mind too much but I do feel the effects if I run an hour (or more). It’s definitely summer!
Random comment/question, but why don’t you do the bun on hair wash days? I can’t stand to have any hair touching me and always need to do the tight bun haha
Haha, I like my ponytail I guess! It doesn’t bother me so I naturally just leave it that way unless I’m focused on preserving a blowout.
