Running & Pure Barre Workout Recap (10.9.17 – 10.15.17)

Pure Barre on demand core workout

A year ago today I shared my workout recap while saying today was the Bar Mitzvah! I remember running 10 miles and then leaving for my hair and makeup appointments. I can’t believe it’s been a year!

For most of this week, 5 miles became the magic number. I didn’t plan it that way, it’s just how most of my days ended up! 5 miles felt good and gave me enough of a workout to start my day energized without feeling overworked.

There were 3 treadmill runs thrown in to the mix this week too, one of them was not exactly planned.

Let’s discuss!

Monday – 5 Miles (treadmill)

This run is also known as the treadmill run where I held half marathon pace for over 3 miles.

I started out easy for half a mile but realized I felt great so I bumped up my speed to 7.5 and fluctuated for over 3 miles between 7.5 – 8.0 before cooling down.

5 miles accomplished right under 41 minutes. Before leaving the gym, I made use of the free weights for upper body exercises.

Tuesday – 5.38 Miles/10 Min Pure Barre

The random .38 happened because I was on the phone while cooling down in the last mile but then my headphones wouldn’t let me hear my friend. I can’t run while holding the phone to my ear so I stopped running to talk and walk my way home. No big deal. I didn’t plan to run more than 4 or 5 miles today anyway.

Later in the day I squeezed in a 10 minute Pure Barre workout for thighs & seat.

Wednesday – 5 Miles/15 Min Pure Barre

The sun is rising later and later so I did a 5 minute Pure Barre workout for arms before heading outside to run. Those 5 minutes made the difference between dark outside and sunrise.

A little over 5 miles later and I was home for a 10 minute Pure Barre seat & abs workout. 5 miles seems to be the magic number this week.

Thursday – 5 Miles (treadmill)

It was raining when I woke up so I chose the treadmill for today. I don’t mind running in some rain but I was nervous that the leaves would be too slippery.

I had a great treadmill run though! After a super brief warm up, I alternated half a mile at 6.8 with inclines ranging between 2-5 – 4.0 and than half a mile of speed (with incline down at 1.0). Inclines make me more out of breath than speed work!

I was going to do a Pure Barre workout but since I was in the gym, I chose to use the free weights as well as the kettle balls.

Friday – 30 Min Running/30 Min Pure Barre

I felt sore in my legs from the squats and things I did in the gym yesterday! I get excited about this because it means I not only did something different but I did a good job of it. 🙂

30 minutes of easy running while on the phone followed by a 30 minute Pure Barre workout.

Saturday –  10 + Miles  6.2 Miles/Pure Barre

I knew there was a chance of rain so I wore my lululemon rain jacket but it didn’t help me when it started to downpour! I gave it another mile or so before realizing I was beyond soaked and couldn’t see. Ugh.

I ran inside to the gym for 30 minutes on the treadmill where I was fast enough to complete right under 3.70 miles in the half hour. Combined with what I ran while outside, I hit 6.2 miles and called it a day. I was absolutely not prepared mentally for a long run on the treadmill and wasn’t about to push myself into one!

When I got home, I tried a new Pure Barre On Demand workout: 30 Minute Core Intensive. I think I liked it!

Sunday- Easy Run?

So usually I choose a Pure Barre workout for today but I think I may go for a run instead. I was actually in the mood to run long outside yesterday which didn’t happen because of the weather. I’m not totally sure how long I will run but if it’s anything more than a few miles, I will definitely report it!

Did the weather affect your workouts this week in a good/bad way?

How are the late sunrises are you right now? Do they interfere in any way with the time you usually run?

Hi! I'm Meredith. Join me while I run and cook my way through single motherhood. It is always an adventure trying to teach my 12 year old son the benefits of an active lifestyle combined with healthy eating while of course, still leaving room for dessert.

  1. During the week I have been starting and ending my runs in the darkness. Even yesterday I had to wear my headlamp for the first 4 miles! I moved around my runs a bit this week to avoid running in a downpour on Monday. it was a little drizzly on Thursday and Sunday but nothing terrible. I also get nervous about the leaves getting slippery this time of year.

  2. The later sunrises definitely do interfere with my running times, I noticed this week I’ve been tending to run even later in the morning than I’d like because I don’t want to get out of bed as early with the sun still down!

  3. ugh the late sunrises are making me run inside more often than not. I prefer to run alone, so I don’t really want to run alone in the dark. Weather..it is still hitting 90 some days here in Atlanta?!?

  4. Let it be known that i am NOT a runner, but on Friday, my roommate and I went on a 4 mile run in Georgetown (which to be fair, is a very hilly place), and we were both DEAD by the end. Still sore on Sunday. All I kept thinking was I have NO idea how Meredith does this, and much more, on the daily. So…major respect 😉

  5. I am not looking forward to the start of rainy season… they said this winter would be drier, so I hope that’s true! Running in the rain just feels extra tiring. The sunrises are late right now, so I’ve been starting my runs a few minutes later to avoid running in the dark too much. I need all the vitamin D I can get!
