I recently stopped buying bananas because, well, I stopped eating bananas. How crazy of a concept?
All I know is that I started throwing out more bananas than I was eating or looking to freeze so I simply stopped buying them. Pretty sure this is a runner sin.
I brought a pair of Lululemon running crops into the store for alterations and never picked them up. You know they make alterations at Lululemon right? The seam of my running crops ripped so I dropped them off to be fixed and they were to be ready in a few days. This was easily two months ago now. It’s not like I haven’t been to the mall so I can’t explain why I don’t walk in to Lululemon to pick them up. Instead, I think about my running crops being in there and continue to walk by like nothing. I don’t understand it either.
I made the BEST BROWNIES ever yesterday. Seriously, I think they were the best, most fudgiest brownies ever to come out of my kitchen. Loosely following this seriously fudgy homemade brownies recipe, I used a mix of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate, Cocoa Powder and Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips to create the heaviest of batters and most fudgy brownies ever. I don’t bake as often as I once did but it’s nice to know I haven’t lost my touch!
I changed the lock screen picture on my phone to this picture of my son from the summer before he was two. Now, I totally realize that no one else but me sees his sweet bunny face to be as out of control cute as I do but please look at it anyway and get goo goo over it with me for a second.
My goodness, my little boy was adorable. It’s hard to believe he is starting high school next month. How did that happen? In my mind he still looks like this little boy until he walks into the room and towers over me. His face is still this sweet though just without those little curls.
We would go to Chuck E. Cheese just so he could sit on the Barney Ride. He didn’t need the ride to move, he just liked to sit next to Barney and be all serious about it. He’s wearing his change of clothes in this picture too. I can’t recall what he spilled on himself but I do remember this was not the outfit we started with that morning.
I didn’t run back then by the way. Actually, I didn’t return to the gym or to any type of fitness routine other than stroller walking through the malls and chasing my little boy through Chuck E. Cheese until he was three years old.
I’ve written about how pregnancy and motherhood affected my running routine in the past – here’s that post if you missed it.
Looking back, it does seem a little bit weird to me now to know that running and the gym were completely back burnered for a few years. Knowing how it panned out though, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
The one thing I remember feeling very strongly about after my son was born was that I did not want a treadmill in my house. I didn’t want to ever look at the treadmill and feel guilty for being too tired to get on it or wanting to take a long shower in peace rather than running. I had dealt with amenorrhea not long before getting married and then getting pregnant that I didn’t want to fall back into caring too much about exercise and/or what I was eating while trying to raise my little boy. It was the best decision I ever could have made.
Running was so not missing from my life. I know this because I never once thought about it being missing until I was ready to return to thinking about a workout routine which happened when my son started preschool and I had some time to myself.
The world is a different place now with all of these fitness apps and my favorite Pure Barre On Demand. Maybe I would have tried to squeeze those in? Probably not. I would have felt overwhelmed at the thought of trying to and would have felt bad if I couldn’t because looking back, I don’t even know when any of that would have happened.
I so admire all of my running friends who keep on going during pregnancy and when their kids are little. They are major inspiration for sure! I guess you just have to do what works best for you and not worry about what doesn’t. ๐

Are you a fudgy brownies fan or do you like your brownies more cake-like? How often do you bake from scratch?
What picture is currently on your phone’s lock screen? Do you change it often?
Anyone else throwing out bananas rather than using them up?
I LOVE fudgy brownies and in fact have some in the kitchen that I’m going to raid after I post this comment, haha! (PS – it is night time here in Hong Kong so you don’t think it’s weird that I’m having a brownie now)
My lock photo is the best dog ever ๐
haha I hope you enjoyed your brownie
Oh I love them so goey that I’m pretty sure they aren’t actually baked, ha!
OMG those brownies look so good. I am definitely a fudgy brownie fan. I bake from scratch probably once a week!
I often unpeel and freeze bananas to use in smoothies later!
I used to bake so much more but at least I haven’t lost my touch. these brownies were great!
I love your reason for not getting a treadmill. And those brownies look DELICIOUS with a capital ‘D.’ I love gooey fudgey brownies.
I definitely recommend this brownie recipe. so good!
Those brownies look delicious! Fudgy and gooey ones with lots of chocolate chunks in them are my favorite.
omg these were seriously the best brownies ever!
Oh how I love those brownies!!! I’m not a cake person but I LOOOVE dense fudge brownies. Frigging BOMB. And Ben is sooo cute–I’ll be honest. I love those cheeks and his full lips, and big sweet innocent eyes. He’s a keeper. I’ve had so. Many kids that I have a whole slew of experiences with running pregnant, postpartum and not running at all, and running picked up and took off right where I left it each and every time! There is no wrong or right way for everyone–we just have to do what works for us in that moment.
thanks ๐ he was the cutest little thing (still is, only he’s taller than me now lol) and I love fudge brownies too!!
So funny I haven’t bought bananas in a few weeks now because I was letting them go bad and have way too many in the freezer. I am also the weirdo who really only likes bananas when they are still kind of green. Ripe bananas gross me out.
Your son was such a cutie hehe, so serious :p
I’m excited to read that post you mentioned about running post-pregnancy ’cause I had no idea you took that break. I think it’s awesome that you were so intuitive with it. In a way, that’s just as inspiring as all those women who stick with their workout schedule.
I’m def a fudgy brownie person ALL THE WAY.
My lock screen is currently the Gryffindor symbol (total Potterhead here), and I do NOT change it often. Had my last one for like 3 years.
And I almost never throw out bananas ’cause I love having an army of them in the freezer for smoothies or baking hehe.
I miss baking! When I retire from my desk job, I want to bake A LOT and deliver the goods to anyone who would appreciate them.
So funny – I am on a major banana-KICK right now. I used to be a one-a-day. I’m now at least one-a-day and often two ๐
I used to be that way with baking (and sold my cookies too!) but now, it’s so few and far between that I actually bake something!
Your little bunny looks so sweet and angelic in that picture. I love the curls. It’s amazing how quickly everything changes.
Also this is exactly how I feel about exercise right now. I just don’t have the time, and when I do have the time, I don’t have the mental energy. I’d rather sit and read blogs while eating breakfast or relax with a book or throw in another load of laundry. While I used to love working out, it’s not how I want to spend my free moments these days.
PS I just read your other post about not running post baby and the comments on that post are closed so I’ll say it here. Thank you for that post. It’s everything for me right now.
aww I am so glad : ) I know exactly how you feel and I wouldn’t change those years for the world! I should think about opening my comments from the older posts again. I had limited it at one point because the spam was getting out of control – I was told that closing comments to older posts would remedy the spam lol
it wasn’t how I wanted to spend my free moments either – plenty of time later on in life to get back into a workout routine!
