Even if I realized that I won’t be running the Long Island half next month, last week was a super great week in running!
The early morning sunshine combined with the Passover/Spring break helped me to run my old distances again. I had the time to run each morning without feeling pressured to get the day going and the fresh, sunny air felt terrific.
I went over 40 miles for the week for the first time in a really long time. The extra special part to this week was I actually had my period and it didn’t bother me much at all! I went easy for the first day or so but my feet didn’t get their usual time of the month weird achiness and cramps were super minimal for me too.
Let’s see how this week goes running wise for me now that we are back on our school schedule. My son was supposed to still be off from school today but we lost this day due to a snow day in the winter. Oh well!
Monday – 6 Miles
I had a great run considering it was the worst morning in my cycle. My feet didn’t ache at all and cramps were at a minimum (I do take Aleve for menstrual cramps but sometimes even with Aleve I want to die).
Tuesday – 8 miles
Shorts and a t-shirt today! < – The lululemon Lost in Pace shirt and Hottie Hot shorts from Friday’s post.
It was beautiful out and I had a ton of good energy so I ran my old favorite running workout with the negative splits. You know, the one where you run faster and faster for a few miles then one easy and then a few more faster and faster? It’s really a fun workout!
Wednesday – Pure Barre Tone in 10/5 Miles
I went with a simple Pure Barre Tone in 10 Combo:
- Arms & Abs
- Back & Cool Down
I didn’t want a workout that would fatigue my legs before heading outside in the sunshine for an easy 5 miles.
Thursday – 8 Miles
Another great run this week!
Friday – 4 Miles/Strength
I ran 4 easy miles and then came home to my own little strength routine. I didn’t feel like following a Pure Barre workout so I made up my own version with free weights/planks/core work while watching the news. My routine ended up a lot like Pure Barre though as I have the workouts memorized by now!
Saturday – 13 Miles
I don’t even know the last time I ran 13 miles on a Saturday. It’s easily been a few weeks if not a month already which is slightly unusual for me. The sun was shining and the miles ticked by fairly easily.
Chocolate cake is always good as a long run day dessert. 🙂
Sunday – Pure Barre
I love the Pure Barre Pure Results (focus on thighs) workout. 55 minutes of good lifting, toning, and burning. The stretching segments are always great too.
I went for a long walk in the afternoon since it was absolutely gorgeous outside. Maybe 3 miles? 4 miles? I didn’t track it.
Important to note: With the sun only getting stronger as we approach summer, I am definitely back to remembering my sunblock every morning. Be sure to check out my post about sunscreen which lists the products I use as well as provides a list of ingredients you want to avoid. Not all sunscreens are created equal.
Good luck to everyone running Boston today!

Linking up with Meg’s Week in Review…
How was your weekend? Did you have great weather?
Best thing you ate over the weekend?
Are you good about remembering sunscreen when you run?
The weather was definitely great last week. There was no way I would have walked if it had been cold or raining. I am good about sunscreen but I need to go back and reread your post!
I just reread your post on sunscreen. Do you still use the same products?
yes! I do! I made sure to reread the post as well to make sure those were still the same products I use today. Skinceuticals is the best if you want my opinion – I use it for my face and chest and then use Babyganics for my body. You can get skinceuticals at Blue Mercury.
With the weather we’ve been having the thought of sunscreen didn’t even cross my mind yet ;). We had some double rainbows, though, which was amazing.
Congrats on your great running week – particularly despite being in the middle of your cycle. Nature definitely decided to make running or exercising in general extra hard for us ladies.
I love when I see rainbows in the sky! so fascinating to me every time.
The weather this week was gorgeous! I am bad about sunscreen since I don’t wear it when it rains, so I have to redevelop that habit now that it’s nice outside.
I know, I fall out of the habit when I run indoors most of winter but now I have to remember it every day
I’ll have to check out that sunscreen post. Congrats on a high mileage week! And I’m really glad that your period didn’t give you too much trouble. Love that chocolate cake too. YUM.
the best chocolate cake!
I might be willing to run 13 miles if that chocolate cake was waiting for me at the end.
The weather was fabulous last week, wasn’t it? I soaked up that sun.
the first sunny warm days of the season are the best!
I definitely need some adjusting to the warmer temps. My long run yesterday was a hot one (stupidly also went midday).
I am wanting to try on those lulu shorts. They looks like they are similar to the oiselle distance shorts which I liked.
I love the shorts! I definitely recommend them. It was certainly warm the last few days but I think it’s supposed to cool down after today.
I can’t even remember sunscreen when I spend the whole day in the sun! haha. I had a great weekend on this awesome boat in the middle of the amazon… yea.. so cool. your cake looks insanely good as alwayss
That cake looks great, super dark chocolate.
