The Week, The Workouts & Apple Crisp

Linking up with Meg’s Week in Review!

Week-In-Review-Button-Final

Last week saw the return to our back to school routine as well as my usual running schedule. After a cut back week, I felt fresh and ready to roll out there!

I have been running a bit later in the morning though as my son decided to take the bus to school rather than have me drive him (which changes the time that I run). We are still trying to figure out how our morning routine will go but something tells me I will be driving him to school once again any day now.

Right now the big shot thinks he can get up early and take the bus but you and I know that his excitement over school starting will be short-lived.

Before getting to my workouts, a few other things from the week:

Blog issues:  Thank you for being patient with my site. I like to be reliable and consistent with my posting so having site problems which affect my ability to prepare and publish posts has made me a bit crazy.

The site migration was completed over the weekend but I am not out of the woods just yet. There are a few things to still do which I cannot seem to accomplish on my own so hopefully I get some assistance today so I can put all of this behind me!

The Bar Mitzvah: We are only a month away (OMG) and are now back to weekly Hebrew reviews with the cantor at our temple after a brief summer break. Things are getting real around here! I still have a bunch of things to order, organize and do. The RSVP’s are due this week and my son meets with the Rabbi to go over his speech on Wednesday. It would help if he wrote his draft.

Am I old enough to have a son who is about to become a Bar Mitzvah? Don’t answer that.

workout recap

Monday – 6 Miles

I was still feeling cramps from my period so this run was not exactly fun but got better as it went along. I skipped Pure Barre and any other form of strength though because this time of the month can limit me sometimes and that’s okay.

Tuesday – 8 Miles/Pure Barre Tone in 10

This was one of those runs that feel so good that you feel like you are flying. I don’t think I had a run like this all summer. It was a little cooler out, windy and damp from the Tropical Storm but it felt terrific.

Pure Barre Tone in 10 Combo:

  • Thighs & Seat
  • Arms & Abs

Wednesday – Pure Barre & 3.7 Miles

I started my morning with Pure Barre’s online workout with feature focus on thighs.

After my son left for the bus, I ran a few easy miles. I could have kept going to the 4 mile mark but chose to stop when I reached my house rather than continuing.

Thursday – 8 Miles

If Runkeeper was correct, I ran negative splits with the last two miles at 7:39 and 7:10. Runkeeper overall has been accurate so I guess I am getting my speed back!

Friday – Pure Barre & 4 Miles

I started the morning off with a Pure Barre Mile High DVD and then ran 4 easy miles in the heat when my son left for the bus. Over 80 degrees is just not okay anymore this year!

MapMyRun had a major update to the app this week so I decided to give it another try. It was clear after the first mile that this app is still tracking short so back to Runkeeper I go tomorrow.

Saturday – 13 Miles

Uneventful long run but I am not complaining! I felt decent the entire time with an average pace of 8:35.

I usually like to rest for a little while after a long run but the day was packed with shuffling my son around place to place and then to a Bar Mitzvah party in the evening. I did squeeze in a manicure and a pedicure though!

First dark Essie polish on my toes for the season. I believe I went with Essie’s Macks.

Sunday – Rest Day

I published my Never Forget post in the morning while watching the news coverage for several hours as I did some things around the house. I had some work to get done for the week, ran a few errands and then we went out with my parents for my mother’s birthday.

When asked where she wanted to go to dinner for her birthday, my mom chose Salt. Remember I was just there recently?

It’s a great restaurant on the water where I grew up and a nice place to be yesterday even though the anniversary of September 11 sort of just lingers in the air.

I had the same cranberry walnut salad as I had last time.

While everyone else ordered the chocolate cake, I went with the apple crisp. I am now ready to start making my own apple crisps for the season.

I make a mean apple crisp with double layers of crumbs, did you know that? I don’t have my original apple crisp recipe listed on the blog but I do have a lightened up vegan apple crisp recipe here if you are interested, here’s the link.

I start training next week for the NYCRUNs Falling Leaves Half Marathon! I am going to keep this week a little lighter in terms of mileage and intensity just so I am super ready to tackle my training plan. Have a great week. 🙂

What color is currently on your toes?

Do you prefer apple crisp or apple pie?

Best thing you ate over the weekend?

Are you currently training for a race? When is it?

  1. Looks like a great week of running! I love runs that make you feel super speedy. I would say I prefer apple crumble. I’m not a huge pie fan, but I love a warm crumble with a little vanilla ice cream on top.

  2. I love you basically ran a half marathon on Saturday. No biggie. I think I’m going to try and start running with the baby a little bit more now that it’s cooler outside. Either that or some online yoga I can do at the house. I don’t miss the exercise at all these days, yet I feel like that’s only because I’m not doing it regularly.

Double crumbs on apple crisp?! Um, I need this recipe, forget the healthy vegan one.
I went to my 20 year high school reunion this past weekend so I’m with you on the feeling old stuff. Where has the time gone? I still can’t figure out where the summer went much less the past 20 years. Ha.

I love having you in the WIR link up. Happy Monday!!

  3. I ALWAYS double the recipe for the amount of crumbs on apple crisp! And I love how you call your bum your “seat” when you do workouts. It’s so cute. But really, what else are we supposed to call it? You can’t really say, “thighs and ass” or “thighs and butt.” It sounds so crass. “Thighs and bum?” Ha ha.

  4. Training for the Chicago Marathon and have just one more really, really long run before the taper starts!

Best thing I ate all weekend … Does it count if it was tonight? I’m on a work trip in Virginia and just had the most delicious cobb salad at my hotel. Totally hit the spot.

  5. I actually have black on my toes right now, and while I wasn’t sure how I felt about it at first, I’m really loving it and seeing super dark colours being a thing on my feet for a good long while. And I think I’d have to go with crisp. I’d probably take some kind of apple coffee cake above all, but I’m not big on pies so crisps seem like the next best thing.

  6. To be honest, I haven’t done my nails or toes in months! When we moved I threw out all of my nail polish and haven’t bought any since then. I’ve never been to a salon either! My feet are way too disgusting for anyone to see them haha!
