When you stop for ice cream at Marvel the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend and realize it’s still light enough to take an outdoor picture, you know that summer has arrived even though the calendar says technically not yet.
And no, it’s not a typo – I totally meant Marvel, not Carvel! Marvel has been in business forever, it’s a landmark in Lido Beach.
Friday night’s ice cream by the beach is probably what triggered my real desire to wake up Saturday morning and head back to the boardwalk to run.
One of my favorite parts of running at the beach is packing my oats in a jar to enjoy on a bench when I am finished.
I think I am getting old because with every year that passes, I appreciate the views of the ocean and where I have lived all of my life even more than the year before.
I am becoming a regular at Chopt – I just wish they had more roasted veggies in the toppings selection.
I thought who I was getting to Citifield early Saturday night so that we could grab food, walk around and be in our seats in time for the special ceremony honoring the 1986 World Series champion team but I quickly realized that everyone else had the same idea.
We waited ONE HOUR just to enter Citifield – this picture was from the back of the line!
The Citifield food choices are overwhelmingly delicious (remember my post on what I ate when we had luxury suite seats?) but I knew before getting there that I was going with pizza.
It was our second Mets game of the year but my first ice cream sundae in a helmet for the season.
Let’s not discuss that they were out of hot fudge.
I may be a Yankees fan but I have no issue taking my son to Mets games — I especially enjoy the evening baseball games during the summer.
I spent so much of the long weekend driving all over the place to take my son to three Bar Mitzvah parties that I felt like I deserved a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee < – when did the price get so high for a medium iced coffee?!
The iced coffee kept me calm while sitting in crazy standstill traffic which had a lot of to do with everyone attempting to get to the beach, not just for lounging but to view the Memorial Day weekend air shows. They closed off the parkways heading south once the beach parking lots were full so all of the cars being rerouted ended up with me. Lovely.
When you get out of the shower and hear a lot of noise coming from your kitchen, you know your child is up to something.
I found him in the kitchen mixing up waffle batter following a recipe he found on pinterest. I get nutty when someone else is making a mess in my kitchen but since he waited for me to turn the waffle iron on, I stayed calm.
Yesterday was a rainy day (at least in the morning) so I had to run indoors on the treadmill and stare at our pool which opened this weekend but I didn’t have time to spend hanging out there just yet – hopefully next weekend!
It’s Tuesday today, don’t forget it’s Tuesday. 🙂

3 things you did over the weekend?
Favorite place for iced coffee?
What’s on the workout agenda for today?
I remember going to Marvel after being at the beach! Its so weird because growing up near the ocean I always thought it was so normal, but now I have lived hours away from it for like 14 years and I have realized how lucky I was to have been able to go to the beach so easily growing up. I think thats one of the hardest parts about living here!
see, you understand what I mean! I never ever realized that there was life without living right by the beach! it has taken me this long to suddenly get the fact that not everyone lives so close to the beach/water. omg we are so sheltered in our thinking in new York until we move to meet people from other places lol. you need to let me know when in june you will be here!
MUST REMEMBER THAT IT IS TUESDAY. I seriously had way too much fun this weekend, and now it is over, and I have to go back to work. And go to the doctors for a procedure. and then go back to work. It is going to be a day.
I keep thinking it’s Monday! hardest part after a fun long weekend is switching back to routine of the week mode.
I haven’t had a dd iced coffee in so long and now I’m craving it! Your weekend looks perfect, I want to switch with you lol. Actually mine was not bad but lots of catch up from being away!
that’s the worst part about traveling – coming home to get back to life and all of the stuff we missed doing while away. can’t wait to hear about your blog trip though! and, totally send adam for the iced coffee! I am sure he would be happy to get it
DD was my favorite iced coffee when I lived back East. They don’t have DD out here but I’m ok with it because Seattle has no shortage of coffee shops. And yeah, I’ve already forgotten it is Tuesday!
Oh, you’re so lucky to have a pool! And food is the best part of baseball games. I love salted pretzels…those are my favourite.
I haven’t had a big pretzel is a while but I did have salty popcorn at the game too – I just forgot to take a picture. too busy eating lol
Boardwalk runs. Sun. Iced coffee, ice cream, burgers and refreshing salads? OK maybe the burger was just me but otherwise looks like an awesome weekend!
ha – pizza and ice cream can make up for the lack of the burger with my ice cream 🙂
Definitely forgot it was Tuesday when I woke up this morning. I almost don’t want this week to go by too fast. I’m not ready to leave yet! You ate all my favorite foods this weekend ha Chopt, ice cream, pizza…. that pizza crust looks to die for. memorial day weekend done right.
I grew up with a family house on the NJ shore and last year my parents started renting it out and will eventually sell. I miss the fresh sea air on the weekends something fierce. I go to Long Beach for day trips now that I am closer to LI than NJ but it is definitely not the same!
we all like what we are used to, especially when it comes to our favorite places from our childhood, that’s for sure
That little helmet bowl is so darn cute! Now you’re making me crave ice cream! Over the weekend I enjoyed a run, celebrated my birthday with family, and went to the Memorial Day concert on the mall in D.C. (technically part of my job since I work for the company that produces it). Dunkin iced coffee is the way to go, still cheaper than Starbucks is what keeps me going back…
sounds like a really nice birthday weekend! yeah, coffee is pricey but dunkin is still slightly cheaper than starbucks!
My weekend included a bit more studying than I’d have liked, but it’s finals season and school is almost over, so I can’t complain too much! And I have to say, your stadium food looks excellent. That’s some quality pizza and ice cream 🙂
the end of school is the best, isn’t it?! Even with finals, at least you know you are almost done!
That pizza! I’m salivating.
I am super impressed your son made waffles from a recipe he found on Pinterest. Go him!
