The highlight of my day yesterday was seeing that someone googled the following phrase that somehow brought them to my blog:
“Telling someone off sarcastically“
Usually people find my blog by asking google if it’s okay to eat cake as a meal but telling people off? Sarcastically? Ha.
Anyway.
With my son home sick and not eating normally, in addition to polishing off his grapes, I took the liberty of eating some of his Chobani 100 vanilla greek yogurt since it was about to expire.
Such a genius move.
I don’t have a picture of my post-run breakfast but it involved my blueberry pie oatmeal served COLD (including the blueberries which were frozen) with a scoop of Chobani 100 vanilla greek yogurt mixed in. I highly recommend this combo anytime, especially post-run, because it’s a filling meal containing a good mix of complex carbohydrates and protein.
I am so glad that last Friday I made the decision to not plan our dinners for this week. As a meatless eater, I am totally able to wing my meals since nothing needs to be defrosted and so much can be prepared on the fly. For my son though, I do need to plan a little bit more ahead if it means defrosting chicken or steak in preparation for his dinner. Since he has not been eating normally, the only foods I have been preparing are toast with jelly and English muffin pizzas, making me glad I didn’t defrost anything that would have gone to waste!
Speaking of toast, I finally contacted Food For Life to tell them about that randomly wrong cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread I bought recently at Trader Joe’s. Remember, the loaf I got was just not the usual texture or flavor and was missing almost all of the raisins?
Although they think there might have been a problem with quality control and are sending me a coupon, I learned something new about buying my favorite Ezekiel bread at Trader Joe’s:
I did go to Trader Joe’s before receiving this email this week and I did get a new loaf which tastes the way it should and certainly wasn’t moldy but this is still something to think about. The email also informed me that the loaf in question was from December which means Trader Joe’s had it somewhere in their stock for a few months before putting it out on shelves.
What I now wonder is that since Trader Joe’s is clearly selling me bread that has been defrosted, is it wrong for me to then take that loaf and keep it in the freezer? I wonder if that will affect the overall flavor and texture. I may email her back to ask. Sometimes I do store my Ezekiel breads in the freezer since we don’t always eat the slices that quickly, otherwise, I store the loaves in the fridge.
Oh and before I forget, I picked up this new dressing for my son because my dad said it’s good – have you tried it?
A few things that I want to prep for the week ahead:
Quinoa & Lentils – I like to cook them together for a good balance of texture and protein!
Spicy Black Bean & Lentil Chili – Love this chili recipe. Will probably add the quinoa/lentil mix.
This chicken recipe for my son. He loves the spices of this recipe and enjoys the chicken served hot with a baked potato or cold in a salad.
Meatless Meatballs – I ran out of my freezer stash.

Any funny search engine terms to your site lately?
3 things you are doing this weekend?
Are you an Ezekiel bread eater?
That’s interesting about the bread! This week someone found my blog by searching for “It’s been raining quite a bit lately”. Apparently I complain about the weather alot!
ha! that is so funny
I buy that bread for my kids but we’ve always bought it frozen, that’s odd that trader joe’s sells it at room temp? I think after defrosting it wouldn’t make sense to freeze again. I take it home frozen and then keep it in the fridge. Thanks for linking to my recipe this week!
I may stop buying it there and just buying it frozen. I think it’s a little cheaper at tj so I will have to compare prices!
I’ve actually seen moldy loaves on their shelf before- so gross! I stick mine in the freezer right away. I also haven’t tried the cinnamon raisin but I think I need to pick it up this weekend. Happy Friday!
oh wow- good to know! I am just annoyed now to realize that when we freeze the Ezekiel bread if we buy it at tj, it’s a refreeze since it had been frozen before and they let it defrost to sell it on shelves.
That is really interesting! I wonder what other foods are affect there as well!
I never have bought it there because once something is defrosted it should not be refrozen. That causes bad bacteria to run rampant when it is defrosted again. I asked TJ’s years ago why they defrosted it when it came shipped to them frozen and they said it is a space issue. I always bought it at Whole Foods or A Matter of Health because they sell it frozen. Fairway also defrosts it, but keeps it in the refrigerated section. The only problem is it very hard to pull apart frozen. Interested in what you ultimately decide. Have an awesome weekend.
What a bummer about the bread, but I love how honest the company was when you contacted them. I love companies that are open and transparent. Also, that dressing looks amazing!!
I freeze all my storebought bread! It lasts so much longer and stays fresher, and I don’t notice a difference (although I toast bread most of the time). But I think the bread I buy is fresh, not previously frozen, since it’s made locally. I hope so!
I loved the Ezekiel cinnamon raisin English muffins. They taste good just as is! Of course I put PB on them but if I didn’t have any it would be a complete loss. They sell it in the freezer section so I don’t think I’ve ever had a fresh loaf. That’s ok with me though, it’s still delicious. Have a great weekend!
Oh my goodness I love these posts that you do for all these meals. They give me so many ideas. I screen shot them every week!
oh I am so glad to hear that!
That kind of grosses me out what they said about Trader Joe’s. But I am sure TJ’s is one of the better stores when it comes to freshness of food!
Going for a tapered longish run tomorrow morning before the NYC half next weekend, baking up a storm and doing a photo shoot to finally get some new recipes on the blog, and dinner with my boyfriend’s parents on Sunday. Should be a good weekend!
My weirdest Google search that lead people to my blog was “into her sleeping bag.” Which is weird because I don’t recall ever even writing that phrase in my blog.
About the bread, I’m not sure on that specific bread, but I freeze mine all the time and it works out fine. I don’t know for sure if the bread I get has ever been frozen before though either.
that’s such weird search term!
I love Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread before a long run, and I always store mine in the freezer. I actually just pop a slice right into the toaster straight from the freezer, I don’t even bother defrosting it!
I don’t defrost it either -doesn’t need it!
My primary care doctor mentioned to me how wonderful Ezekiel bread is. I am definitely going to try it.
Also, bread and cake products can be re-frozen without it affecting them.
i love the Ezekiel bread! definitely try it- get the raisin one!
That Ezekiel bread sure looks yummy. I’ve been meaning to try it but you reminded me!
Three things I’m doing this weekend:
1. Long run (training for a half!)
2. Taking the train back to school (sigh)
3. Getting my own blog up and running! My first post should be going live Sunday (!!!)
that’s so exciting! you will have to send me the link!
I have never had that kind of bread. We don’t even have a Trader Joe’s in are area so I guess I don’t have to worry about that. It was nice that the responded back to you. That dressing sounds tasty.
that stinks you don’t have a tj! they do sell Ezekiel in other stores like whole foods and local supermarkets – look for it in the frozen section
We go through a loaf of bread a week, mainly the Hubby, but I’m a solid contributor, especially lately. 🙂
