Thinking Out Loud 12.3.15

new years day race

thinking out loud

The week following a holiday like Thanksgiving is always difficult in terms of getting back into the groove. I don’t have an issue with my workouts because those are built into day and a welcomed part of my routine but the school day routine? The work day routine? Yeah, slowly killing me this week.

I am behind on blog reading. My bloglovin feed is overloaded which makes me twitch a bit because I like to get through all of the new posts for each day in a timely fashion but it just can’t happen right now. Not to mention, half of the blogs I try to open freeze and reload and then freeze again which only sends me into a further not-in-the-mood-for-this-week-maybe-it’s-PMS rage of wanting to throw my computer out the window.

I came across this photo of me running the Commitment Day 5k in the city on New Years Day back in 2013 and for the life of me, I do not recall the running shoes on my feet.

new years day race

I know it’s blurry but maybe those are Asics? Gel Nimbus somethings?

And also, in reference to my winter weather workout favorites post from Tuesday, I am still wearing those lululemon crops from the above race every week but not that Gap Athletic pullover. The pullover shrunk and got weird so this is further validation that the money I spend at lululemon (I had bought those crops on sale!) is worth every penny.

So I wanted to say Hey! Look at my new coffee flavor!

Friendly's Chocolate Marshmallow Coffee

But out of nowhere, I have zero tolerance for caffeine. I can maybe handle one caffeinated cup of coffee in the morning this week and anything more makes me feel icky, dizzy and wrong so I am basically down to just drinking decaf.

While on the topic of beverages, I behave like a total child when I encounter one of these modern day soda fountains.

My excitement over the many flavors of water is justified though. I never liked soda and never had options in restaurants as a kid, not even bottled water was available most of the time back then. So now, when I can not only get water but have a choice of water flavors, so much fun! I like the lemon and the strawberry and I like to mix them together to make like a strawberry lemonade 🙂

Time for me to head out for my run, be sure to check out what everyone else is thinking about today!

  1. The beginning of this week was definitely a struggle, I am only just now starting to get into the groove. I usually have 2 cups of coffee a day- one when I wake up and before I work out, and then I bring a second cup to work with me. Today’s lunch is lasagna that was frozen after making it a few weeks ago- thank goodness for that because I have no other leftovers to eat!

  2. Not having that much difficulty getting back to it, but then I’m weird. I don’t drink caffeine unless it is a very special occasion, so I agree, those Freestyle machines are the bomb. But I do love me some soda 😀

  3. Commenting on your blog and texting you is an interesting thing! I haven’t had any coffee for a week but I’m dying to get back to it. Wonder how I’ll feel though – might have to stick to tea a bit longer! And longlive lulu 🙂

  4. I try to keep my coffee consumption to one cup a day, but no one has to say how big that cup is 😉 Sometimes it’s just 1 K-Cup, but sometimes I go with something a little stronger from Bux. That’s saying nothing of all the chocolate I eat, though 😆

  5. Go for PB&J for lunch, simple and delicious. Nothing too complicated. I love salad as much as anyone, but sometimes there’s just too much going on. I cannot handle complicated food if I feel frantic in other areas of my life.

  6. I am definitely struggling this week! Monday and Tuesday were awful. I couldn’t get motivated and basically online shopped all day at work. Not good. I typically stick to one cup of coffee a day, otherwise I get jittery, but sometimes I’ll have another cup in the afternoon. I’m not much of a fan of flavored coffee, but Starbucks always sucks me in with their holiday drinks!

  7. I love those soda machines too. I’m thankful that God gave someone the genius to create them! :)) That coffee flavor, even though I don’t like coffee, sounds so yummy! And don’t worry about catching up on blogs. 🙂 They’ll be here, when you have time. ❤

  8. OMG. Meredith.

the first time I got back from America, I would not shut up about those drink machines. Seriously!! The combinations were cray!

I think you should totally do a guys athletic wear guide 😀 not that I wouldn’t wear ladies hoodies 😀

  9. I’m a 2-3 cups of coffee drinker. I usually have one before I workout and then 1-2 after my run. I haven’t had soda in nearly two years, and the last time I had it it was too sweet for me. Today’s lunch will probably be sweet potato fries and an egg – I’m such a creature of habit!

  10. Those soda machines make me SO SO happy. Like, I have asked my husband for one for my birthday 3 years in a row. No shame. As for decaf, considering I’ve been pregnant/nursing a caffeine intolerant baby/pregnant for the past 2.3 years (God, help me.) I’ve been the queen of decaf. Tips: Target’s Archer Farms brand recently started releasing decaf versions of their flavored coffees and it’s amazing. The Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee one is BEYOND. It’s one of the only brands I can find reliably that has fun flavors in decaf that I don’t have to order for a billion dollars offline.

    1. It’s so true. And really, for the most part, most of the stuff I get at lulu is pretty comparable in price to the other brands. Maybe not the super cheap brands but you definitely get what you pay for.

  11. Ooh… coffee is a weak spot for me. I drink about 3 cups a day, one of which is decaf and I love it 🙂 I definitely find it hard to get back to routine straight after the holidays but I find running helps to keep me focused and just put the head down and get on with it – all of it!

  12. I have never encountered one of those machines (and what rock am I living under to not have) but would certainly be excited!

I drink one massive coffee most days (24oz of goodness or so) but on days off will some times not have one and be totally fine. Caffeine really doesn’t do anything for me at all. But I do love a good cup of coffee!

  13. Ugh computer frustrations are the WORST. I’ve been weird with caffeine too lately – I usually have 1-3 cups a day, but lately even the littlest bit is super not sitting well with me. Sadly though, I keep drinking it and telling myself I should stop. I don’t think I’ve ever come across those fountain machines! Probably a good thing as I would start acting waaaay below my age 🙂

  14. I love those modern soda fountains! I’ve only encountered one once before, and screamed in the middle of the restaurant with excitement 😉

  15. As you probably can tell, I’m super behind on blog reading too. Oops, sometimes life trumps blogging. Actually pretty much always. And I share your frustrations about certain blogs crashing repeatedly while I’m trying to read them. Half the time my comments get all screwed up too, and I wind up so frustrated. I get it. I’m there with.

In good news, Happy Hanukkah. I know it kicked off yesterday and I hope you’re enjoying it.
