Good morning! I am just sitting here, well, actually laying here, sort of like I have been most of the weekend.
I don’t schedule my cut-back weeks but have realized they occur naturally for me and almost always fall during that time of the month.
I was major PMS earlier this week in that my mood was just off, I didn’t feel like myself mentally, I was tired and could not get my focus back to normal until almost Friday.
Sure enough, Friday made a whole lot of sense when my monthly visitor arrived a few days early.
Looking back on my week of workouts, I can see why things panned out the way that they did and why I probably didn’t feel so great in terms of finding some speed on Tuesday.
Monday – Pure Barre Studio Series 1 DVD & 4 Miles
Tuesday – 8 Miles – I mentioned this run in Friday’s post but it’s worth noting again that the original plan was speed work but it never happened.
In case you missed Friday’s post, I shared the new speed workout I intended to run — Click here to check it out!
It was super humid which may have played a role although, overall, I just knew I didn’t have an ounce of speed in me so I didn’t even attempt to push it.
When you know, you just know and you leave it alone. There’s always another day to run fast.
Wednesday – Pure Barre Studio Series 2 DVD & 30 Minutes on the Elliptical – I pedaled easy while talking on the phone with my friend Heather while she went for a walk down in Florida. It was as if we were working out together!
Thursday – 8.5 Miles – I felt back in my groove today!
I ran my favorite running workout (with the negative splits) and had a great run.
It probably helped that there was no humidity, what a difference to run without the heavy air around me.
Friday – Pure Barre Online Workout (60 minutes with focus on seat) – I am getting more familiar with this routine having done it now three times (or is it four?)
It’s funny how the first time you do something new, you breeze through it unaware of all of the little details of the workout. It takes a bunch of times to really notice what the heck you are doing to decide if you like it for sure.
I definitely like this Pure Barre workout but I will say, it’s for sure challenging in an I-can-keep-up-but-this-is-hard sort of way.
Saturday – 10 Miles
I didn’t even go to bed that late but I woke up tired with that slight bleh time of the month feeling.
We saw Train Wreck Friday night by the way. Did you see it? It was so funny!
I thought about going home after the one mile mark but then I said the following to myself which kept me going:
Why go home? Nothing actually hurts, nothing is sore, you don’t have cramps and your workout clothes are already in use which means if you go home after ten minutes you will need to wash them anyway. Might as well make it worth it.
So I ran 10 miles at a super slow and relaxed pace because sometimes I just can’t give or do more and I know that pushing myself when I feel this way during this time of the month could make me dizzy.
Aside from going to the mall for a bit in the afternoon (Nordstrom having their sale), I have been forcing myself to sit down and do something called rest even though I had grand plans for cleaning out some closets and organizing some stuff around the house.
I can’t stop thinking about this shirt. I should have bought it, right? It was on sale too.
Sunday – Rest Day
I slept 10 hours (!!) and am currently really happy right now in bed with my cup of coffee. If I feel like moving soon, I will go for a walk to Dunkin Donuts for another cup because I have a coupon for an iced coffee 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Did you see Trainwreck? Did you love it?
Best thing you ate so far this weekend?
Is today a rest day or a run day?
I can’t even remember the last time I saw a movie in the theaters…must be at least 5 years or more? Unless I am totally blanking on something I have seen more recently but I really never go and just wait to watch movies on Netfllix.
Sadly I haven’t eaten anything noteworthy this weekend but hopefully that will change today! My running schedule is all thrown off so I am planning to run this morning. I hear its super hot out so not sure how it will go!
I am not a huge movie goer at all but do go with my son fairly often since he started liking movies and then Friday night was a real exception because I really wanted to see Trainwreck! I never want to see anything lol
You definitely should go get that iced coffee 🙂
I so did!
Thursday really was a refreshing break from the humidity! Saturday was another story, the air was crazy thick! I am doing nothing but resting today too! Besides locating a mermaid costume for my daughter, but that’s another story. Funny how taking on a mall can be just as exhausting as a workout!
The mall is quite exhausting which is why I wore my sneakers! I would never make it there otherwise, especially after running. Today is even more humid than ever – good thing we didn’t run this morning.
That shirt is too funny! There should be one that says chocolate, chocolate, CHOCOLATE 😉 Today is probably going to be a little upper body from the 21 Day Fix, since I can’t do much with my lower body (38weeks pregnant and need to rest my legs due to varicose veins). Happy Sunday 🙂
38 weeks! Wow, so exciting! Good for you for still getting a workout in, I recall being so unable to move at that point 🙂
Love that shirt – best thing I’ve had so far this weekend is actually some of the Strawberry ice cream it’s talking about! The end of this week has been a running break for me due to an unexpected little stitch put in right above my ankle on Thursday, but I’m all clear to run with it tomorrow!
Don’t forget to have ice cream again today for National Ice Cream day!
Ugh what they call our “little friend” is the worst. You know what I hate the most? Not only does PMSing suck but the commercials for it. I remember the one commercial a lady was on a tropical island when she got it. yeah that sucks you got your period.. but your on a tropical island with beautiful weather & i’m imagining margaritas at your offing hand. Ha!
Which of all the barre workouts between the one line or the DVDs is the most challenging?
