When Janae first shared this running survey, I knew immediately that I wanted to share it with you guys as well.
It’s a great compilation of running-related questions and I really enjoyed answered them — let’s take a look!
Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?
Beach. For sure.
Maybe it’s because I have grown up surrounded by beaches, maybe it’s because there are no mountains round these parts or maybe just because I find life at the beach so relaxing that running there feels like a vacation to me.
If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?
I don’t drink Gatorade on the regular which means I try not to grab it during a race but if I do grab it, please let it be a red flavor not blue and please do not let it go up my nose!
Most of the time, the cups of water I grab during a race end up more in my nose than in my mouth.
If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?
Well, if the store sells running shoes…
But, if the gift card is to Lululemon, I may need to purchase this bag. One of the colors is on sale, I can’t stop thinking about it but I don’t really need it. I just really want it 🙂
Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and how fast you want to run?
I prefer to go by how I feel each day but as you know, lately I try to follow a bit of a plan just so my legs feel fresh and I don’t burn out.
Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end with the uphill?
I think I prefer the uphill towards the beginning to get it out of the way!
When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do?
Pure Barre is the greatest, I really don’t mind the elliptical machine and would love to take a spin class again!
What is your preference—> Out and back, point to point or loop runs?
Most of my runs (okay 99.9% of my runs) are loop runs. I don’t really mind this because I hardly pay attention to what is around me when I am running so I don’t get bored with the scenery.
If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a—>
This was the toughest question to answer. In fact, I saved it for last.
It’s hard to recommend something to another runner because we are all so so different! The pants I swear by may not be your favorite fit and the shoes that fit my feet may not fit yours.
I decided to recommend my most favorite running accessory ever because these mittens are just the best and cannot be replicated or replaced by another brand:
If you have cold winters, you must get the Lululemon Fluff Over Mittens for winter running. I never felt cold, they were always comfortable, I could swipe on my phone with ease and the removable extra layer made them even more versatile.
Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?
Do bunnies and squirrels count? I don’t want to see anything else!
Ever gotten lost while out on a run?
Another benefit of running in a loop, you really can’t get lost.
If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days… what would that meal be?
You totally know the answer to this question without me having to say a word.
Capris or shorts… what do you run in most often?
Would you believe I have been wearing my capris all summer so far?
I never bought a new pair of running shorts which I had planned to do this season.
I do wear my running skirts on occasion but not as often as my Lululemon Run Inspire Crops. I wear them year round!
At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?
Sometimes I don’t feel in my groove until mile 4 or 5. It really depends on the run but lately, I make sure to really allow myself a warm up so that I find my groove quicker rather than starting too fast and suddenly feeling burned out when I should really first be getting going.
What do you do with your key when you run?
The zippered back pocket in my pants or skirt. I won’t buy any bottoms that don’t have the zippered pocket.
If you could relive any race that you have done in the past, which one what it be?
My first half marathon at Hershey Park. Such a great experience!
What type of run is your least favorite type of run?
I really don’t like 5K races because I hate the feeling of running so fast for what feels like eternity…and then wanting to throw up when I finish.
BUT — a part of me wants to run a 5k race this summer. Makes a lot of sense, I know.
What has been your biggest motivation lately to get out the door to get your run on?
Um, is it weird that I don’t need motivation? Running in the morning is just a part of my routine.
When you go for a run, do you leave right from your front door or do you drive somewhere to start?
Right from my front door. I love that I can step outside and just go.
When running in daylight—> are sunglasses a must or an annoyance?
I do not wear my sunglasses when I run which is funny because I live in my shades! I don’t like the feeling of glasses on my face when I am running, especially because they get sweaty.
When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?
I think about how good it feels when you finish. I know the difference between really needing to stop and really needing to push myself mentally to stay in the run so I remind myself of the breakfast waiting for me which always tastes that much better when you finish what you set out to do.
Your turn! Pick a question or two from the survey and share your answers in the comments!

I don’t really enjoy 5k races, either. I don’t like to sprint, I don’t like to feel like I”m dying, and why can’t I just go out and run for a good long while? Why cut it off short??? WHY I ASK WHY
Hahaha – agreed.
Can’t believe you’re still in capris! I get so hot I contemplate leaving my shirt home lately but haven’t yet. Definitely beach for me as well, running at the beach is my favorite of all time 🙂
I know, it’s so weird that I don’t mind running in capris. I guess my legs don’t get hot. Maybe if I ran any later, I would have an issue.
I love this survey 🙂 Those mittens look great and I have to check them out! And I totally agree that Hershey half is the best race. so fun!
I really want to run Hershey again!
Every time I run a 5k I say Im not doing another one…and then I find myself signing up for another. I think they are a bit addicting in that they really push you out of your comfort zone and don’t involve a lot of time or recovery.
I also try to avoid buying any running bottoms without the zipper pocket! I feel like its the safest/easiest places to keep my key.
I am all about the zippered back pocket and the little inside the front of the waist pockets too. So important.
When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do? I love SoulCycle for cross training. It gives me the same type of workout high as running. And it is a great way for me to get in some weight training since I try to avoid it at all costs 🙂 And I’m a total beach run kinda girl too!
I keep meaning to try a SoulCycle class and still haven’t gotten around to it! Ugh.
Oatmeal seriously makes the perfect post run meal. Actually… anything breakfasty does, really. And I think I’d choose mountain trail over beach, but I’m also slightly biased, because… hello… I love the mountains 🙂 That and running in the sand is just killer on my legs.
I thought of you when I answered the question and chose the beach!
I feel the same way about 5ks, and I also just don’t get going and start feeling really into the run until 2 or 3 miles in…so I’m definitely one for longer distances. I realized that with the exception of my hometown Turkey Trot, I have actually never done a 5k! Most of the charity races I do in NYC are 4 or 5 milers.
I love how this survey is making the blog rounds, it was so much fun to fill out and to read other people’s answers. It’s such a great window into how we each think and feel about running.
I totally agree – these little questions do tell a lot about us as a runner. I love hearing everyone else’s answers.
You love Lululemon so much you should try the Pace Rival skirt! I couldn’t get out of my Inspires either I tried them, now I can’t get enough!
I have that skirt! It’s great. I think mine is multicolor.
