Is It Really August 1st?

I am struggling to understand that today is August 1st. When did this happen?

September is already next month. The Halloween decorations are already in stores.

Hopefully this means Trader Joe’s canned pumpkin is on its way to the store shelves soon, too? Libby’s just isn’t as good.

It suddenly occurred to me that Fall race season is kind of approaching.

Hmm.

I haven’t signed up for any of the fall races I had in mind months ago when Fall seemed far away.

The Hershey Park Half, the Diva Half, the Entenmann’s Half (which falls on Yom Kippur so that was out of the question anyway), The Great Cow Harbor 10K or even the five-mile race I ran on Labor Day last year.

I figured I would be running at least one of the races but something occurred to me yesterday when I was happily stretching at the end of another Pure Barre class.

If Pure Barre offers another special, which the girl at the front desk thought they would, for the price of one half marathon entry fee, I could sign up for a month’s worth of barre classes.

Something to consider, don’t you think?

I mean, I do love a race but they can be pretty pricey and I can challenge myself to run 13.1 for free anytime I want.

Although the race perks and goodie bags are appealing; I still use my Hershey Half cooler bag to tote my snacks to the beach.

I don’t know what I am going to do just yet and have decided I won’t think about it today.

Today is still a summer Friday with another summer weekend on tap which is now reminding me that I must go purchase a new bottle of SkinCeuticals sunscreen.

sunscreen

If you recall from my post all about Sunscreens, I swear by SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense for my face and BabyGanics for the rest of my body.

I have been trying to ignore the fact that I LOST MY BOTTLE OF SKINCEUTICALS ON THE BEACH LAST WEEKEND.

I never lose anything and it is just not okay to lose a bottle of $34 sunscreen.

I thought about buying one of the cheaper-but-still-acceptable sunscreens for the face just to get me through the rest of the summer but reconsidered.

I love to save money but I don’t skimp on things I truly value, especially when it comes to my face, so to save ten or fifteen dollars, it just isn’t worth it.

Another thing I decided isn’t worth skimping on?

warm weather workout essentials

In my Warm Weather Workout Essentials guide for this season, I mentioned supplementing my running wardrobe with some tank tops of the GapFit.

Gapfit tank

I like it. I do. But. It isn’t my favorite or first choice.

I can’t even tell you exactly why. All I know is that I have three Lulu tanks that I go to first.

I do so much laundry that I can really keep rotating the same few tops, pants and skirts that I love rather than have a giant running wardrobe filling my drawers and emptying my wallet.

My son likes to make sure my wallet is emptied. Last night it was a new must-have-to-bring-to-camp beverage that all the kids are drinking.

sparkle-ice

Has anyone ever heard of this Sparkle Ice? Have you tried it? Do you like it?

I don’t like sparkling beverages. Never have and never will. Like, I won’t even try a sip that’s how much I hate the sparkle.

The stats for these bottles are much better than those Vitamin Waters he had me buying a few weeks ago.

I still wasn’t thrilled to see food colorings on the ingredients list but I don’t like to ruin all of his fun and they were on sale for a dollar each so I was a real sport and bought three bottles.

I am signed up for another Pure Barre class this morning so it’s time for me to get this day moving. In case you are curious, this will be seventh class already.

I have seen major progress in my ability to keep up with the core work warm up and have noticed that it takes longer to get my muscles to shake rather than looking in the mirror and seeing my legs quiver at the start of each routine.

Isn’t it great to be able to recognize your own progress?

Have a great weekend!

Have you registered for your fall races yet?

Do you rotate the same few workout clothes even if you have a drawer full of options?

Three things on your weekend agenda?

  1. I haven’t registered for any fall races yet either. I was injured this spring, so I think I wanted to REALLY make sure that I would actually be able to run the races before paying the registration fee. But you’re right, the time is coming!

  2. I’m registered for a whole bunch of fall races that I’m 80% sure I’m no longer running. It’s this little thing called I’m too cheap to pay for a flight home for the weekend… so now I have to revise my entire schedule. Figures. I love that gap top! I would go to lulu too first though… I mean, it’s lulu! I can’t believe it’s August but it makes me feel a little better about leaving RI so early this year. Because once August hits, it’s practically fall!

    1. Yeah, I kinda feel like you got a decent amount of boat time in since it’s already August anyway maybe that makes it not as bad to leave so soon. I don’t blame you for not paying to fly home for a race – races are pricey enough but throwing in the travel cost adds a whole other level to the run.

  3. I used to be really good about going through all of my workout clothes (mostly out of necessity) but there are definitely some very heavy hitters in there. I have loved watching my progress with yoga and the core work and other parts, but I have noticed some regression with some of the inversions, which I am hoping will change when I start to concentrate on arms again.
Also I saw pumpkin beer at the store the other day 😀

  4. You had some great posts friend! Today is my sisters birthday, so that means mine is in a few days, which is craaaazzzy as it seems like only a few days ago that I was saying it was months away!

I have registered for Chicago, as you know, but my progress is definitely not coming along as I hoped….as you will read in todays post.Hoping I can spin it around in time for the race, but we shall see!

    1. Happy birthday to your sister! You know I need to know what her birthday cake of choice is, right? And I don’t think I knew your bday was approaching! Cold Stone sundae or cake? Too bad we can’t meet up to celebrate it together over dessert! We will discuss the upcoming marathon later. I have faith in you, you will be able to do it!

  5. No fall races for this girl since I will be popping in September! It has actually been a little sad to not have a run to look forward to. But for now I am enjoying slightly slower and easier workouts and lots of toning. I actually haven’t been to a Barre class since I got pregnant because I am way to intimidated with this belly. I hear you can go as a preggo, but I think I’m going to wait until post bebe.

    1. There was a pregnant woman at Pure Barre for a few of the classes I have attended and she was easily seven to eight months pregnant. I was fascinated and at the same time, sort of wished there was such a class for me back when I was pregnant because the routine and exercises seem like something I could have handled back then.

  6. I’m glad it is Aug 1st . . . .today is my birthday! And I am one of those crazy people that loves to celebrate my own bday. I’m treating myself to a pedicure. Woo hoo!

I’ve tried the Apple Sparkling Ice. Its pretty good, but for the price of one bottle I’ll just buy a jug of apple juice at the grocery store.

    1. Happy Birthday! I love celebrating my birthday and absolutely always treat myself to special pedicure for the special day. Have a terrific birthday and great weekend. What kind of birthday cake are you having?

      1. Thank you! 🙂

Yesterday I had almond cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and today it is banana bars with cream cheese frosting. Sooooooo good!

  7. I like the unique back on that tank, but I know what you mean about having your “go to” items – I am the same way. I cannot believe it is August 1st and I have to go back to work on Monday 😦 I totally remember my first morning of vacay 8 weeks ago and saying to myself “this is going to fly”…well, it did! Going to enjoy my last weekend of freedom and not even think about it right now! Have a great one!!

    1. Yeah, the back of the tank is pretty, I do wear it but don’t choose it first…I can’t believe you are headed back to work already either! I remember when you were posting about your last day. Time really flies! Have a great weekend.

  8. Coincidentally, I registered for 3 local races last night. I had a free entry to the Sept 6 Malta 5k, which I will run as a high intensity time trial to test my fitness after 3 weeks in Europe; it’s supposed to have a good goodie bag. Also registered for my usuals: Sept 21 Saratoga Palio 5K, returning to defend 1st place in my age group, and Sept 28 Watervliet Arsenal 5K. Planning to do the Hot Chocolate (5k or 15k?) in Phoenix in Dec. and hoping to find a race during trips to San Francisco in Oct and Anaheim/Disney in Dec.

Too few shorts, Too many shirts; I favor my Saratoga Stryders tank and tee with a couple of other favors.

This weekend I’ll mostly be preparing for 3 weeks of travel in Europe (German Rhineland, my favorite Barcelona, and London), hopefully 90 minute run today, and maybe some swing dancing to night . . .

  9. #1 on my agenda this weekend is to not get eaten… by a bear, mosquitos, or otherwise. Camping should definitely prove to be an interesting experience  And I’m pretty much always washing/wearing the same clothes. I have a few pieces that I love and rotate between constantly. Hey… if it ain’t broke, why fix it?
