Imagine my excitement after yesterday’s post to see Chocolate Covered Katie shared her Healthy Makeover recipe for Entenmann’s Chocolate-Covered Mini Donuts.
I know we were talking about Entenmann’s cookies but still, to see an Entenmann’s healthy makeover recipe left me wanting to call all of you immediately to talk about it.
Here’s the link to the recipe. The ingredients list is short and you probably have most, if not all, already in your kitchen.
I get really excited for Friday lately.
Not just because Friday signifies the beginning of the weekend and not even because this weekend is the unofficial start of summer offering me warm weather, pool season and weekends at the beach.
Every Friday morning 95.5 FM (local radio here in New York) gives me Reunion Friday.
Reunion Friday means that a random year from the 90’s decade is selected each Friday morning and only music from that year is played on the radio.
My good friend and I carpool our kids to school and I insist on driving Friday mornings just so the kids have the opportunity to listen to The Spice Girls and me singing at the top of our lungs.
Notice I don’t say the kids are singing; they are too busy either making fun of me or sitting there in shock at what takes place. They love it, trust me. Or maybe just I do, I don’t know. Just go with it.
Last week I introduced them to Sir Mix A Lot and Baby Got Back. I am hoping for some Color Me Bad today. Or even Bell Biv Devoe or old school Brittany or something cool like that.
My excitement over Reunion Friday may not be normal but at least I appreciate the little joys in life.
And I make it educational for them; when the year is announced, I tell them what grade I was in, what I was wearing, what I was doing…and of course, what I was eating.
So can you believe we are at the unofficial start of summer? Feels like only yesterday that it was Labor Day and I was celebrating the end of summer with a trophy.
You may recall that I capped off a terrific summer 2013 with a five mile race down on the brand-new post-Sandy Long Beach boardwalk where I finished second in my age group.
This was also the race where I questioned my sanity the entire five miles as to why I run races and why I run at all. That’s my usual thought process when I run so fast.
It just so happens that there’s a 10 mile race in Long Beach this Sunday morning and I randomly decided last night to register and run it.
Perfect way to kick off summer, don’t you think?
Ten miles should be an interesting race. It’s not a 5k or a 10k so I can pace myself a bit better to avoid that 5k-I-want-to-throw-up feeling yet it isn’t a half marathon either so I can go fast without worrying about burning out at the ten-mile mark which I often fear in 13.1 distances.
I will be taking it a bit easy between now and then which means no long run for me tomorrow. Good thing the weather will be nice and the pool with be opened!
Have a terrific holiday weekend!

What are your plans this weekend?
Any songs on your playlist from the 90’s?
What goes through your head when you run a race?
That sounds pretty good to me! I wish i could find a 10 mile race near me to jump in! All I can find is 5ks, and they are too darn short! I love that picture about STOP! Hahahha! What goes through my head while running, funny you ask, my dad was asking me the same thing, when I said not much most the time, he said he thinks my mind may be catching up on sleep haha! I am not sure if that is true…..but interesting to think about!
I can never find anything here aside from the regular 5k’s, small handful of 10k’s and the half marathons that occur in fall and a few in the spring. I got lucky with this 10 mile race! I pretty much refuse to pay/drive for a 5k race.
Love how spontaneous that is with a race! I love my throwback music 🙂
I have so, so many songs on my playlists from the 90s and early 00s. “All that She Wants” and “Hammer Time” are most definitely in rotation. And I actually love the 10 mile distance. You will find that you can have more fun with it–push a little harder, test your tempo, and still be able to do whatever the rest of the day! It’s the perfect training distance for a half to help you build sped and endurance! Have fun!
Thanks! And terrific, now I have “All That She Wants” stuck in my head. I think even back then that was one of those songs that played on repeat in my head! Loved Ace Of Base.
Love that Ecard with all the old song references 🙂 Enjoy your race this weekend! I started the morning with 7 miles, will trudge through work today, then hopefully spend lots of time outside BBQ-ing and swimming for the weekend. Oh and Pandora’s summer hits of the 90s station is fabulous as is 90s Pop hits.
I love when Pandora play me a good mix from the 80’s and 90’s. Lately I have been getting Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now” which always makes me happy. I have to check out the summer hits of the 90’s- thanks! Sometimes I find even with a theme to the station it somehow gets off track and gives me something completely different, like country music lol.
Only definite plan is our Hubbard Hall Puppet Club performance, “Dreams” at the Cambridge, NY Farmers Market. I was thinking of running the Memorial Mile in Glens Falls, but will probably just go to watch.
When exactly were the ’90’s? 🙂
I like to think ‘Fast, Fit, Focused, Fun’, but it’s often “I shoulda”: warmed up longer, gone to bed earlier, started slower, bought a pair of fancy racing shoes, tapered sooner, worn/not worn my HRM, worm my watch, started my watch, charged my watch, etc.” but since it’s usually only 5K’s for me, by the time I get through the list the race is pretty much over. For the 10K, I might have enough time to actually enjoy a few moments of the experience . . .
I thought of you when I saw CCK’s post… even though I have no idea what those donuts taste like since, yeah… they don’t exist up here 😛 And omigosh the 90’s had the best music ever. I still regularly listen to a lot of those songs… especially Britney. No matter what, I’ll probably always have a soft spot in my heart for her.
