Technology Is Not For Me

Anyone remember the TI – 82 calculator?

You know, the giant (and scary) thing they called a scientific calculator which was required in math and science classes for us to store our formulas?

I never used one. I had a harder time figuring out how to use it and store the formulas than memorizing the actual formula needed for the exams.

In case you didn’t already know, I hate technology. Always have and always will. I am old-fashioned, close-minded and don’t adapt well to modern computer processes.

I hate widgets and plug-ins, I don’t want to clear my cache and haven’t a clue what to do with things like HTML or FTP.

And, if you want to know how I really feel, I find it rude that the people who developed this computer language that I don’t care to speak made use of the word cookie. It is just not nice to throw around “cookie” when there really isn’t an actual cookie to be had.

This hate for technology completes my trio of hates:

hate people and pants

This would be my original tag line and should I ever have the actual shirt made, please remind me to add technology to the design.

Anyway, today is Friday. Friday has become my day to play in NYC. Well, not all play I guess. I have a business type lunch meeting at Sarabeth’s and will then stick around town for a good dinner.

Remember the last time I was at Sarabeth’s? I couldn’t resist the oatmeal for lunch and was then starving because there wasn’t a drop of protein in my meal. Hmm. I am all about more carbs/less protein these days but one needs a little protein to not feel nauseous hungry so I am going to try to order something different today.

To save myself from throwing my pretty pink laptop across the room yesterday, I unplugged in order to tackle my grocery shopping in advance of the weekend.

After carefully reviewing this the sales at my local grocery stores for this week, I determined that most of what I buy is cheapest at Trader Joe’s regardless of special pricing and sales.

Yesterday’s haul:

Fresh Produce:

  • Bananas
  • Plum tomatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Mandarin Oranges
  • Carrots
  • Cruciferous Crunch Mix
  • Strawberries
  • Potatoes

  • Rice Medley – if you are still boiling your own rice, you are wasting your time
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Asparagus
  • Chicken Shu Mai
  • Blueberries – Um hello, where are the decent priced pints of fresh blueberries these days?

  • Organic Chick Peas
  • Organic Black Beans
  • Refried Beans
  • Organic Spaghetti Sauce
  • Coconut Oil Cooking Spray
  • Reduced Guilt Popcorn – I am obsessed at the moment.
  • Pepper
  • Semi-Sweet chocolate chips
  • Whole Wheat English Muffins

Notes regarding my purchases:

*Ever since I announced that my son and I are all about the Wild Frozen Shrimp, they stopped selling it, I can’t find it at any of the locations and it isn’t polite.

*My son has developed an expensive palate and requests to go out for Japanese food several nights a week which just isn’t happening so I compromised and bought him Chicken Shu Mai to satisfy his need for restaurant Shrimp Shu Mai.

*I am still hung up on the Fruity Pebbles so I bought Fruity O’s to make myself feel better.

Fruity- O's

I may or may not bake something with the Fruity O’s this weekend. I have it in my mind to do so but I also have a long run to look forward to, Red Mango to eat, a Little League game to attend as well as an awesome dinner in store for me tomorrow night which hopefully concludes with chocolate fudge cake.

What are you doing this weekend?

Don’t forget that tomorrow morning is s Unity Walk in Central Park. Click here to register and learn more. 100% of donations go to Parkinson’s disease research.

Anyone else hate technology as much as me?

Bloggers, do you go insane from widgets and codes and programming for your site?

What day of the week do you do most of your grocery shopping? Do you end up in the stores more than once a week like me?

  1. Ugh, that calculator? I have to use it every week in my financial statement analysis class, doesnt that sound like fun??? I cant wait till it is over…..2 weeks!!! Phew!

I do not have a day to grocery shop right now as my schedule is so crazy, but once I am done with this few weeks, I love going on a Sunday morning to pick up my goodies for the week….in fact I look forward to it! I will have to try those trader joes fruity Os!

It is Penn Relays here in Philly this weekend, so all hands on deck as the city is alive with track and field….but makes for VERY long days! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  2. I liked the calc, not going to lie, but I liked the TI-89 better, because it would actually solve things for you. I am a gadget person–phones and stuff, but not a coding person. Widgets overwhelm me. And my brother is a computer game designer/programmer. I should just get him to do it….
I wanted to be James Bond, and use all of the things. I’ll let Q figure the stuff out.

  3. Ok so. I had the same problem with wanting Japanese food all the time ands then my friend introduced me to the Japanese market. You MUST find one they are amazing, they have all the appetizers frozen which taste just as good as the real thing and my friend even taught me to make home made sushi have you ever done it!?!? There are amazing things at this store you should go I promise it’s worth it !!!!

    1. Genius idea. I have to find my local market – thank you! I keep saying I want to make my own sushi. I must do it one of these days…I do make my son the chicken teriyaki he likes but of course, he still wants to dine out. Who can blame him.

  4. Okay I loooove the Trader Joe’s chocolate chips. They’re soooo addicting though!
That chicken shu mai looks really good!! I’ve never tried it!

    1. Aren’t they? When I have a chocolate craving, I usually end up with handfuls of these chips straight from the bag. Works every time. My son hasn’t tried the shu mai yet but I am going to venture to guess that it is good!

      1. My Hus grabs handfuls of the choc chips too! I just found they have peanut butter chips now, so now he takes a handful of chocolate AND pb chips and calls it “a Reese cup made in his mouth”. That is, if he can find where I his the bags from him!!!

  5. OMG the TI – 82 calculator… even the word just makes me shudder. Except mine was a TI – 89, but who knows the diff? I am so with you about tech lingo… this is why I’m lucky my web designer happens to be one of my best friends!! And yay for being in NYC today, I will be running around uptown 😉 xo

    1. Lately I keep finding myself downtown but most of my life was spent uptown…I don’t think I ever fully realized how big the city was when I was a little girl….I don’t know the TI-89 and never want to encounter it. Ever.

  6. I remember that dratted calculator! I used it in… high school? Maybe? Omg that was forever ago. I’m getting so old. But yeah no… technology anything makes me crazy — I think we talked about this 😉 I usually do all my own coding and blog work, but I can only handle it in small bursts or I start feeling like I want to throw my computer out the window… which probably wouldn’t be the best for my wallet.

  7. Yay! Thank you so much! I cannot wait to receive it.

As for the calculator… I use it every single day. Ughh. not fun!

  8. The fact that people are discussing graphing calculators makes me super happy (even if it isn’t all positive) Not to brag or anything but … I am pretty much a wizard at all graphing calculators.

Blogging technology though? Yikes. I feel dumb when I read most “how to improve your blog” posts.

  9. I can totally relate with the blogger problems! I tried to embed a link to my blog for over a half and hour today and it just won’t work for me! Clearly I just am not a fan of technology too! I’m glad I am not the only blogger with these problems haha

  10. Lol Meredith! I’m surprised you remember the name of the calculator 🙂 I thought I was supposed to be good with technology but I don’t even know what a TI–82 is…my first guess would be that it’s some kind of Terminator model.

I think I went to school in that transition period where calculators were encouraged but still “optional”, and I did everything I could to write math without a calculator! You’re right in that it takes too much time to remember how to use it. If you have to remember HOW to use a piece of technology, the makers are doing it wrong.

    1. I went to school in the transition period too where you didn’t use a calculator except this dreaded TI thing, there was no internet until I was a senior in high school and even then it was something no one had, cell phones were big and bulky and you left them in your car. Geez, it wasn’t even that long ago yet saying all of this really makes me feel ancient!

  11. I knew nothing about HTML yet didn’t begin the blog… And I still don’t understand it! I know how it is important to understand it to make the blog more convenient and beautiful… But it is very difficult! It is obvious that I have a humanitarian mentality 😉

  12. I love technology challenges included. I shop on Saturday and make a mid-week trip for end of the week produce. It’s routine! My daughter is going through an I hate people phase. She will love the graphic!

  13. I hate technology too! Thankfully, my Hus works in IT and I call him my geek squad. BUT he’s no programmer, so I’m trying to teach myself programming and web design. I’ll have to say, it ain’t no joke! And who knows how far I’ll keep going! Lol

    1. Genius idea – let someone else deal with our blogging technical issues. I usually outsource them all to my good friend. Letting him handle it is better than me throwing the computer across the room.
