In no particular order, welcome to my thoughts of the moment…
1. Please tell me that I am not on the only one to leave the house while still talking on a house phone.
I find myself in the car not connecting to blue tooth only to realize I am not using my cell phone. To make matters worse, I then drive around the town with my house phone in the car and forget all about it so later when the phone rings in the house, I can’t find a handset and blame my son for not putting the phones back on the chargers.
2. I rarely answer my house phone if it rings. I prefer to talk on a landline than a cell phone if I am home and I will instruct people who call my cell to call me on the home phone instead, but, if it actually rings unannounced, I don’t always answer it.
In fact, I don’t remember the last time I checked the house phone answering machine. I can take this a step further – I don’t check voicemail on my cell phone either. Please don’t leave me messages. I don’t want them. Thanks.
3. An object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. When this theory is applied to my running, the outside force is actually an inside force known as my brain.
I am really doing so super well this week tuning into my speed and tuning out my thoughts. But, as soon as I jog a few recovery steps, my mind takes over, gets lost somewhere over a rainbow and the focus on speed is all but on the yellow brick road en route to the land of Oz.
4. Did you know that your colorful headband is not just there to look pretty and keep hair out of your face?
I mentioned to the girl who cuts my hair the other day (hairdresser? Is that still the term?) that I didn’t want to wash my hair after my run the next morning because I hate ruining a good blow out as well as fresh highlights.
She told me to wear my headband along with a pony tail and that the headband does the job of keeping the hair from getting too sweaty. She then said that if the hair is sweaty underneath, to leave the ponytail in until it dries completely.
It worked. Like magic. She also informed me that sweat in the hair isn’t actually icky or dirty which was a big concern for me.
I don’t always wear the headbands but now I am hooked. My hair was much less sweaty (like significantly) and dried completely normal. I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me.
5. The black pants I am wearing in the above picture are from the Gap. I found them in my drawer and swear to you that I have no recollection of ever buying them.
They are the same cut as the pair I once mentioned I hated from last year because they used to slide down but I really don’t remember ever buying them in black. Like at all.
Usually when I can’t find things in my drawers, I decide that someone snuck into my armoire and stole them; this time I am convinced that someone snuck in and gave these pants to me.
6. Let’s talk Fruity Pebbles. I was more a fan of the Cocoa Pebble but did enjoy my fair share of Fruity Pebbles as kid.
In the past week I have encountered a bunch of cereal-involved recipes including two using Fruity Pebbles.
Fruity Pebble Marshmallow Cookies
This is one of those situations where I know too much about ingredients, preservatives and nutrition.
Ingredients
Rice, Sugar, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Coconut And Palm Kernel Oils), Salt, Contains Less Than 0.5% Of Natural And Artificial Flavor, Red 40, Yellow 6, Turmeric Oleoresin (Color), Blue 1, Yellow 5, Blue 2, Bha (To Help Protect Flavor).
Enjoying a pebble-ladened cookie in a bakery is one thing but buying the box of cereal for my house where I can see this list makes me twitch in all different directions.
7. Please tell me what to do with this pan.
I have had this Williams Sonoma ice cream cone shaped cupcake pan for years and have never figured out the perfectly dense recipe that makes the cones hold up nice and tall without falling.
Cake Mixes don’t work. I have tried my own versions, I have tried cookie dough, brownie batter and combinations of them all. Please share with me a dense cake recipe if you have one. The cones are really cute especially when piled high with fudge frosting.
I have been drinking my French Toast coffee as I type up this post and feel the need to inform you that I am really not good at communicating prior to eating my breakfast. I know I sound all friendly and sweet, I realize I claim to be a morning person but I am hungry and it is early and actual verbal communication just wouldn’t happen if you were sitting here with me.
And on that truthful note, I am off to eat my oatmeal.
Be sure to check out what everyone else is thinking about today!

Do you use your house phone anymore?
Favorite sweat band/head band?
Fruity or Cocoa Pebble? Favorite cereal now vs. favorite as a kid? I loved the Pebbles, Life, Multigrain Cheerios, Cookie Crisp, Waffle Crisp and Ice Cream Cones Cereal….Now, I don’t ever want cereal. Just call me weird.
Truth be told, I don’t even know why I have a landline… I’m not a fan of talking on the phone so I never give out the number, I’m unlisted so I don’t get any spam, and I use my cellphone for any shorter calls that I have to make. In fact, I think the only time my phone ever rings is when someone comes to visit and I have to open the door to my building for them. Stupid phones…
And I actually love headbands. I have a few from Lulu that I use to hide bad hair days 😉
I usually tell people my number is unlisted or I just give out a fake one. I don’t like talking on the phone as much as I used to at all – we are so much alike.
Something strange about me – at me never was a home telephone number 😀 When I grew, people still communicated alive, and after I had a mobile phone 😉 Well and now I am the girl who doesn’t do without the Internet!
I need to get one of those sweat headbands! I usually just use a skinny headband to keep my hair back, but I’ll have to get a bigger one! I HATE working out when I’ve just done my hair for the day, so that’s a perfect solution!
The thick one I was wearing is from Lulu. It may be worth it to buy one and see if it works for you! I have some of the skinny ones but those wouldn’t get the job done.
I was an alphabets kid!!!
Remember those old-school carphones? They were huge! So funny you left the house with your landline…can’t say I’ve ever seen that before!
Hmm. I never cared for alphabits. I think they were too bland for my overly sugared tastebuds back then.
I haven’t left the house with the landline (when I was at home) but I have searched desperately for my phone whilst on the phone (typically with my mom). This has happened more than once. And no, never answer the landline. That is why you have an answering machine. The headband trick? I totally discovered that a few years ago, but more in the sense that I seemed to sweat less down my face when i wore a head band. When I wear headbands now, I tend to wear the ones that are no slip, and they tend to leave marks in my hair.
And cocoa pebbles. For sure. And Cocoa Puffs. Definitely. I love all cereal, to be honest. Team Cherrios was my absolute favorite, though. And Special K Red Berries. I haven’t deviated too much.
Ohhh I loved Coco Puffs too! And yes, I have looked for the phone while talking on it. Just like holding my keys and wondering where they are.
I had no idea about the headband thing! I am totally trying this out tomorrow! Thanks for sharing that tip!
You’re welcome! Just make sure it is a thicker headband. The thin ones probably won’t do the job.
I have become a headband girl. I LOVE with a fiery burning passion the Violet Love headbands for the gym and pretty much refuse to wear anything else…they help make my huge forehead look smaller and don’t fall off my head like almost all other bands do. You look great in the hot pink one, I think it’s a good look 🙂 And I have been meaning to tell you, i have two pairs of GAP workout pants, same exact cut and style, one stays up great, the other is all loose and annoying. I feel ya.
Aw thanks! I don’t love the look of headbands on me but now I am hooked just for the no-sweat-in-the-hair aspect lol. None of my Gap pants are all that terrific but I so hear you – one better of mine is better than the other. I wish I could recall ever buying the black pair. I am telling you, I swear I didn’t buy these!
I literally laughed out loud at your #1 lololol I would do this if I had a phone at my house but I do not ! And then I laughed again because #2 I am the SAME way. I HATE when people leave voicemails I never check them, so much so that someone called me and said my inbox was full and they couldnt leave a message.. GOOD. #4 is BLOWING MY MIND right now. There are so many times where I either did my hair the night before and don’t want it to get ruined. I MUST TRY thank you !!!!!
Try it with a thicker headband – the thin ones won’t work at all! Lol too funny how most people today don’t have a landline let alone checka voicemail. I just hate messages!
you brought up fruity pebbles and it made me smile!!! oh my gosh, totally made me flashback to being a kid and every time we visited my aunt she let us buy fruity and cocoa pebbles!! normally at home my mom would only buy generic stuff…and some things u just can’t knock off! lol.
YAY for getting ur speed on!! keep on working on wrangling that brain back from over the rainbow…hehe. jk…keep it up, u rock, Mer!
I don’t take my home phone out because I don’t have one. But, I have found myself looking all over for my cell phone….and I am talking on it!! Ha! I must admit, I don’t buy Fruity or Cocoa pebbles, but I reminisce because the only time we had it as kids was on vacation when mom and dad would buy those small boxes, you know, the ones you cut open and pour milk into! Cocoa were definitely my fav, if I could get them before my five brothers. I found you at The Cookie Chronicles. Happy weekend!
You googled cookie chronicles and my page came up? Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for telling me! I totally loved those little boxes of cereal. At some point they started selling certain cereals in little bags instead of boxes but that was short-lived until recently I have noticed some available again.
