Is it weird that I have never needed an alarm clock in my entire life? Like, if you tell me that I must be up at 4:00 am to give myself some time before getting out the door for a race, I will be up on schedule?
I think it’s weird. Or maybe just one of my numerous finer qualities. Look at me, I am even funny at 4:00 am on a Sunday morning before running 13.1 miles in Central Park with hills at the 1.5, 3.5, 7. 9 and 11 mile marks.
Before I get into race day talk, I have a few important things to discuss first.
I bought the Dark Chocolate Cherry coffee from Target and it is quite tasty. You need it.
And, if you use the Target Cartwheel app on your phone, you can save an additional five percent.
Have we discussed this Target Cartwheel coupon app yet? I don’t think we have but I don’t exactly have the time now to do get into it since I am supposed to be eating oatmeal, drinking water and figuring out what I should be wearing. Remind me though?
I went to Whole Foods yesterday because I never made it there on Friday.
To my surprise, the 365 Cleanser and Moisturizer that we just talked about on are currently on sale for five dollars each! A dollar off a bottle is a big deal since every dollar counts. Make sure you get there this week.
And, if that savings isn’t exciting enough, would you believe that the price of Ezekiel Bread at Whole Foods is at least one dollar less than any other local grocery store including Trader Joe’s? I did not know this until yesterday.
Trader Joe’s sells the Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread for $4.99. Some grocery stores by me have been known to charge upwards of $6.99.
Whole Foods price is $3.99. Total Excitement.
Okay let’s talk race stuff.
Race Expo:
Picked up my number (and my cousin’s number) on Friday and then walked around the expo for a bit.
Stopped by the Sparkly Soul booth to say hi to Pamela and then was on my way to Blue Water Grill.
It was absolutely gorgeous on Friday so dining outside in Union Square was in order. Does sushi count for carbloading? I like to think so.
After dinner I needed frozen yogurt from Flavaboom because I had tasted a sample earlier while walking around the city and had it in my mind that I would be returning to load up a cup.
I know I scheduled myself for three easy miles yesterday morning but ended up doing four. Considering I am super stubborn and totally used to running much longer on a Saturday, I think four is a fair compromise.
I like to think that frozen yogurt counts for quality carbs because I am noticing a trend in my weekend.
I should probably decide what I am wearing this morning, yes? I know I am going with a running skirt but I am toying between a Lulu Run Swiftly Long Sleeve shirt or a tank top.
Other than that, I am super prepared. I can’t begin to tell you how great my legs felt yesterday and I attribute it all to the taper week rest and reduction in mileage.
I am seriously considering cutting my miles back more often. I know we are supposed to have cut back weeks like this in general but come on, how many of us really do what we are supposed to do all of the time?
I have also been chugging water like nobody’s business and can really feel the difference. I intend to keep up my extra hydration after today’s race.
Today’s race. Oh. Hmm. Did I just say I am super prepared? Oh. Yeah. I am prepared but perhaps a bit nervous.
I never really put much pressure on myself or get nervous, however, I did run this race all KT-taped up my left side last year and managed to finish in 1:49 so I certainly expect myself to do better than that.
In fact, I kind of sort of expect myself to shave several minutes off of that time since my last half was minutes faster than that.
Time for me to go assemble my breakfast and snacks and get out the door. We are picking up my cousin on the East Side before making our way to Central Park.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

“Is it weird that I have never needed an alarm clock in my entire life?” Wait, hold up right there :-O Yes it’s weird, but good weird…it’s more like a superpower! 😀
Cut back weeks are the best! You’re onto a good thing there. Good luck for the race!
Thank you – too bad my superpowers didn’t get me through the race! lol. There’s always another one…
Wow I wish I didn’t need an alarm clock! I am a morning person but I don’t think I’d be up at 4am without one. I don’t really need one for after 7:30/8am but I always have one as a backup just in case. GOOD LUCK TODAY!!!!!
Hope it went well today!!!!
