Get To Know Me

Hi friends!

I feel like you all must know me so well by now but there are bound to be little things that fall through the cracks that we have yet to discuss. I saw this little survey on Julie’s blog and thought it would make for a fun post today.

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

I didn’t eat breakfast yet this morning but yesterday I had my favorite oatmeal/greek yogurt/berries and peanut butter in an almost empty Crunch Time jar after my long run.

2. How much water do you drink in a day?

I have no idea the total amount of water I drink in a day, all I know is that I guzzle and guzzle water all day long.

I have been so thirsty lately that the only thing that satisfies my thirst is eating watermelon and/or cantaloupe in addition to what seems like gallons of water.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

We all know the answer here – running. Nothing beats a good run.

4. How many calories do you eat in a day?

Not a clue. I don’t count calories because I judge food more by quality and do not feel that the calorie count for broccoli or an apple should be questioned or counted.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I must admit, I have never been much of a snacker. I never really cared for chips/crackers so I usually just grab a piece of fruit if I feel like a snack. Nothing is better than an apple (with peanut butter of course).

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

I have been on a major salad kick for a while.

I add various roasted vegetables and then mix it up with either quinoa, brown rice or roasted sweet potatoes and chick peas or black beans topped with avocado.

So many combinations that it never gets boring and is guaranteed to satisfy.

7.What is your favorite part of your body to strength train?

I know I need to do it but weights are an afterthought in my daily workouts. I have been trying to make a more conscious effort to work them in to my routines to strengthen and tone my muscles as well as help prevent injury.

If I had to say which is my favorite part of my body to strength train, I guess it would be my legs.

8.What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

My upper body.

I feel like most people would answer these two questions in the reverse and prefer to work their arms over their legs but after injuring my shoulder in April and suffering from Shingles a few years ago, my arms are extremely sensitive and I can only use 5-lb free weights to avoid hurting myself.

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

I hate using the terms “good” and “bad” when it comes to food. I believe in everything in moderation and making sure that most of my diet is nutrient dense foods. That being said, we all know that I have a sweet tooth.

I always indulge in dessert when I dine out or if a random craving pops up.

I believe in satisfying all cravings because if you don’t, it will be all you think about and probably lead you to overeat on something else if you don’t just dive in for what you really want.

When I said “dive in” I couldn’t help but think of the game show Double Dare where the contestants literally dove into dessert.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

I don’t. I have in the past but I am pretty confident I reach my vitamin/mineral/nutrient requirement directly through the foods I consume each day.

11. How often do you eat out?

I typically eat out on the weekends and cook during the week.

12. Do you eat fast food?

I can’t recall the last time I ate from a fast food restaurant although sometimes I think about the giant baked potatoes from Wendy’s (does that count as fast food?).

If I were going to eat fast food any time soon, it would be in the form of a Blizzard from the Dairy Queen that just opened a location on the Island.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

Oh my goodness. I must admit that I have so many big supporters in my life. In addition to my parents, my friends are truly amazing people. I do not know what I would do without them. Each one of them plays a major role in my day to day life.

And let’s not forget my cousins who are like sisters to me.

And sometimes like second mothers. It is ok, I have gotten used to being treated like the child.

14. Do you have a gym membership?

Oh yes, as we all know, I love Lifetime Fitness.

While I love to just step outside and run, I love Lifetime for the variety it offers as well as for the pool.

I keep the membership month to month and freeze it at different points during the year when I am more focused on running outdoors and training for half marathons.

15. How many hours do you sleep at night?

Hmm. I probably sleep 8 hours on average. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

I don’t really call any day a cheat day. If anything, I indulge a little bit more on the weekend, especially after a long run.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

I don’t have much of a tolerance, but I do enjoy a glass of wine (or two) on occasion.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Not really. Since the majority of my workouts are runs and I prefer to run alone, I don’t really have someone that I routinely exercise with.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

While I have always been focused on eating well and exercising on a daily basis, I would have to say that since changing my diet 18 months ago to vegetarian and focusing mostly on plant-based foods, my energy levels increased immediately. My ability to run faster and longer with shorter recovery times is probably the best benefit of the vegetarian diet for me.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

I have a pot of steel-cut oats cooking on the stove so that we are set for the week.

Can’t wait for breakfast to be ready!
