Happy Friday everyone! Since the sun was shining so bright this morning and the temperature actually above freezing, I chose to dodge the snow piles and ice patches to run outdoors for the first time in easily 10 days.
I had to pay much more attention to my usual route since mounds of snow at various spots blocked my path. But hey, at least I got outside.
What was rather interesting to me though, and I hate even admitting it, was that I might have possibly, slightly, just a teeny tiny bit missed having my pace and distance displayed in front me as it is when running on the treadmill.
Remind me of this tomorrow when it is snowing and I am back inside.
Interesting though how quickly one adapts to a new routine. I never thought I could miss anything about that machine.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love running outdoors and will forever choose it over being trapped inside in one spot, but it is possible (maybe) that treadmill running and outdoor running both have positives and negatives aspects. Is this me talking?
Anyway, Valentine’s Day dinner was as delicious as expected.
Dessert of course was the main star of the evening:
Next time you are at The Cheesecake Factory you must order this. Remember – it isn’t on the menu but you can ask for it – The Factory Mud Pie.
Stick with me – I know secret dessert menus.
I know I said yesterday that the boy and I cannot share a dessert. Well. I had a long discussion with him prior to ordering and we decided we could share this chocolate mound sent from heaven as long as we outlined the rules and knew the plan prior to it arriving at our table.
Rules to sharing:
Rule #1 –We ask waitress to make sure the cake is sliced as big as possible. Yes, I know The Cheesecake Factory is known for slicing big heaps of cake.
Have you noticed though that over the last few years the slices have gotten smaller? Well I have. I have quite the detective eye when it comes to my dessert.
Anyway, I inquired about it and was told that they recently implemented a 2 finger method to determine cake size. So, if one server’s fingers are smaller than another server’s fingers, you are going to be receiving less cake.
See! I knew my cake was arriving smaller and/or different each time.
Unacceptable. The nerve.
To remedy this, we now know to ask to have our cake sliced based upon the largest fingers on staff.
Call me crazy. I call me knowing how to get the cake I want.
Utilize your resources, people.
Rule #2- We ask for a side of hot fudge. The boy loves the fudge and if he is busy dipping his fingers or drinking the fudge straight from the dish, he is distracted from trying to take my cake.
Rule #3- We get him a separate plate.
As soon as the cake comes, I quickly give him a huge portion and let him eat from that. I can’t handle his fork invading my cake space.
I wonder if we are the only people with rules to eating cake.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend as much as I am! Maybe you are even lucky enough to have a 3-day weekend since Monday is President’s Day.
Our schools are normally closed for the holiday.
This ripped up pile of paper was the school trying to let me know that they will in fact be open on Monday to make up the time missed from the blizzard last week.
I think the school assumed I would be able to read the notice in one piece.
Ripped up pile of paper= unhappy student.
Have a good weekend!
OMG… the ripped up paper from school is classic!! Bummer about the non 3 day weekend.
That mud pie looks so good… I’m a dessert freak myself.
I love my treadmill (but I’m odd), it’s better than freezing your butt off outside if you ask me. 🙂
Have a great weekend.
The ripped up paper made me laugh. At least he told me afterwards what it was about lol. School was originally closed the whole week – we lost the rest of the week from days off for Hurricane in the fall. I am such a dessert freak and maybe I can learn to love the treadmill since the forecast is snow today, tomorrow and frigid once again for the next several days. UGH!
